Currently I’m using rice paper logo lams but I don’t like them because they look cheap and you can see the paper after glassing. Where can I get some good logo lams that I can use to look clean a crisp with no visiblility. Kind of like Mandala’s logos. You never see any traces of the lam edges.
i used tissue paper…it looks good except…mine bled a little and there are some random black smears…im pretty sure this was due to the ink and not the paper…now im painting to hide the blemishes
What kind of ink did you use?
its in an hp laserjet…i cant read the kind of ink because theres a big stupid cartridge world sticker over it
Yea my ink is probably the same kind. I could get them silk screen printed but I wouldn’t know where or who to go for that. I don’t want them to print on rice either its just cheap and ameture looking. Tissue paper might be different i don’t know I’ve never used it.
i used tissue paper as well with but with an Ink Jet printer. i found the tissue paper in my basement too… in my gift wrapping paper supplies… worked very well and this stuff is really cheap to buy.
Supreme,
I’m surprised that you’re having trouble with your logos. Rice paper is the industry standard for manufactured boards. Where are you getting it? Maybe the paper is not good quality…just a guess.
I had a printing company make me up several screen-printed sheets with my logo on them and I haven’t had any problems with paper shadows when using polyester resin. I do get a very slight shadow with epoxy, however. But you only see it if you’re looking for it.
My source for the rice paper I use in my Epson printer is Mitch’s in Solana Beach, CA. Also no problems.

Supreme,
This guy does screenprinting of logos for pro shapers. I’ll probably cost a pretty penny but it’ll be what the production guys are using.

I’m going to try a local sign maker who has low solvent pigmented inks that are supposed to be rated for 3 years on outdoor signs. That’s plenty colorfast for a surfboard. I’m Just trying to figure out exactly which paper to buy so I can have him run some trial prints. Then I’m going to spay a chunk of foam dark and try the lams before I actually put in on a board. I don’t want new paper and ink to screw-up an otherwise good board.
Good luck

Use an Ink Jet printer, lasers just cook the powder onto the paper, ink goes into the paper…
I used Tissue paper from an art supplier, not white but more the colour of trace paper (NOT velumn or drafting paper!!!) I used a Laser printer and stuck the paper to a piece of normal paper with repositional spray adhesive, making sure there was a good bond and no wrinkles.
I’d say an ink jet would be heaps easier to use - but the laser printer at work was just better at the time with no bleeding!
I did an A3 sized full coloured design. Turned out great!
The glasser at first thought it was a bit weird as the tissue tends to curl up a bit, but once in place they found it wetted out better than the pro silkscreened ones and is definitely invisible under the glass!
I just trim the paper.
