I am trying to hunt down ways of putting a logo on a board after it has been laminated, sanded and painted. I’m thinking screen printing?
i’m far from an authority but this is what i’ve heard/read in the archives (worth a search by the way)
yes you can put logo’s on top of the hot coat but be sure to cut the corners round or they will curl up when you gloss. and apparently quite hard to keep in the same place when glossing.
i seem to remember kokua saying something about laying one ontop of the lam with another sheet of glass over the top which you then peel off before it kicks to get it smooth? something like that anyways… wait for a reply on that one though!
oh and if you’re using epoxy you can use a lazer printer to print your logo onto ascitate (the plastic used with OHP’s), lay down a thin layer of epoxy on top of the hot coat and then the ascitate onto this. peel the ascitate off when the eposy sets and it’l leave the toner. make sure your logo is printed backwards though! my dad has used this on kayaks and apparently works
Thanks.
Howzit deanbo, So the board is glassed , hot coated and sanded. Kind of late for the logo but not impossible. The way icon was saying is part right for putting a logo on after just the lamination. You put a layer of 2 or 4 oz glass over the lam to protect it when sanding and don’t pull the glass. But it seems you are past the point that this will work. Think a stencil and sray paint would do the job and put a clear coat over it. Aloha,Kokua
Kokuas method of 2 or 4 over the lam is the way most shops put down a lam on opaque or dark tints, painted hotcoats etc. The other alternative is to go to a local sign shop and have them scan and print your logo on sticker material. That’s how all the Cobra stuff is done.
Howzit McDing, You don’t need a sign shop to make make a sticker for a board. Avery Paper makes a decals for window that you can use in your own inkjet printer. I have made my own decals for my van and other people. The best part is you can print them to go on the outside of the window or reverse the picture and put them on the inside. These will work just fine for a board. K-Mart sells it. Aloha,Kokua
Hey that’s right. Forgot about that stuff. Good tip.
