…or not ?
Hi Ben,
I was only looking at the Lokbox site the other day and there is a Australian distributor in Vicco, I think. I was thinking of maybe getting some of the Quad fins for a fish I plan to shape. However, the cost of the jig seems prety prohibitive. I’ll have to investigate further and see how easy/hard the fins would be to install without a jig.
Chris
Thanks Chris !!
…let me know how you go , eh ? [and how much the boxes and fins cost here , please ?]
cheers !

Hey Chris,
I have spoken to to the Australian distributor here in Melbourne and he didn’t know much about the Lokbox system at all. He said he didn’t have any in stock and was not likely to get any in - said he would order it for me if I wanted them though. The company is more into kitesurfing I think and is the distributor for Rainbow Fins and thus by default the distributor for Lokbox also. Things may have changed since I spoke to them so maybe you will have better luck. In terms of the jig, it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with something yourself once you have the boxes in hand and can template them.
Cheers
Rohan
Sorry for the late reply, i just returned from the surf expo in cornwall england. There are already several Lokbox Jigs in australia. We are working with a rep over there and geting him set-up at this time. Over the next few months Lokbox products will start to become available in australia. As soon as all is sorted i’ll post up his contact info! Thanks

…and , I will keep pestering you if you don’t …hehe [sorta]
Hi Lokbox,
I just found your post mentioning you were setting some folks up in Australia to sell/install your lokbox system. I have seen it on Mandala’s website and it looks ideal.
I am shaping my first board at present, a 6’4" lis style fish (I am 6’1" and 210 pounds and normally surf logs, hence the large size).
I am planning to shape my own ply keel fins 8-8 1/2" base 5 1/2 " high to fit your system. Will this work, or will it put too much stress on the box?
I have the dimensions on the tab from an earlier string as follows …
You use an undersized tab/extension of the base. The dims for the raw base should be 1/4 thick x 2 1/4 length x 7/16th depth.
I look forward to hearing from you on the local distributor/installer … I live on the Central Coast in NSW.
Chris
I vote Chip to be Wozzieland distributer…
Howzit chip, Jim was here on Kauai a couple of months ago and him, Rick Hot and I got together. Jim spent about 5 hours with us demonstrating the system and talking industry and the system is a really good one. We now have the system install kit and a few boxes and fins to work with. Unfortunatly the blank situation has slowed things down but as soon as blanks are available we are looking to do some installs, they also have a wide selection of fins to choose from. Also the fin box jig is a breeze to use and I love the vacumn jig. Aloha,Kokua
Thanks for the words Kokua. Since there is actually some foam in OZ at the moment…the trip may be coming sooner than later!
Howzit Jim, Actually I want to thank you for the time you spent with Rick and I and all the good info and etc. I have shown the fins to some people and they really like what they saw and are very interested in the system so like I said, as soon as we start getting blanks again I think we will do some installs. I also tell them to check out the Bahne web site to look at al the other fins available for LokBox. Aloha,Kokua
I have been waiting on your visit. im pretty keen to get some of your fins in our twinnies and quads. how soon do you think
Howzit Dave, Have you checked out the LokBox fins on the Bahne site, they have some really nice fins. Jim is a great guy and really good at explaining how his system works and the easy installation. I'm sure you will enjoy meeting him and talking industry.Aloha,Kokua

OK boys, obviously the clark foam thing set us back as it did everyone else. Sorry I haven’t been there yet but we made some more minor changes to the box, and we wanted the system completely dialed before introducing it to the australian market. In 2006 we began working with Taylor Knox and he used the system for the second half of the tour finishing 9th which is his highest placing so far. Got second to Andy at Barra, the contest of contests. His boards are all 4 oz contstruction that are about 5lbs, and of course he buries them up to the stringer on turns. No broken boxes or fins so were pretty happy with that, and think it is really ready for you guys!!
I will be arriving in sydney around feb. 20th and making the drive up to the goldy. I would like to visit as many of you guys as I can along the way. I will be at the fish fry at Currumbin alley on march 7th hopefully with Rich Pavel, and John Belik, among others like Dick Van Stralen and Feral Dave! Should be around the gold coast for a couple of days after the fish fry, then making the drive back down to sydney. Looking to rent some kind of little combie van that can sleep 2 with a bathroom etc… so any tips on where to find one of those in sydney would be greatly appreciated!! So chime in guys if your interested in a demo. Give me your location so I can plan and lay out the trip so we can meet up. Also the type of boards you build would be helpful. Cheers Jim
Reach me at lokbox@sbcglobal.net I will be out of the country starting tomorrow until the end of january and won’t have have daily internet access so I’ll return your messages as soon as possible. Thanks
