Can someone explain the difference between the regular Lokbox speed dialer fins and the turbo speed dialers. I realize they are curved, but was wondering how this affects the way water flows and how the board rides. Thanks.
i was told by the fin maker the standard cannards are better for a more passive down the line surfer and advantages from the turbos come into play only if you’re a hard carver.
I would think they focus lift and reduce tip flex, as far as how they work. They might also allow the outside fin to slide easier if you didn’t cant them too much. I’m sure JJR will answer you if this thread stays up, so this here’s a bump if nothing else.
Are you sacrificing speed for turning ability with the turbos?
I can’t seem to find anywhere online selling lokbox. The lokbox site has a distributor listed, but no shops. Anyone know where I can find these online?
The turbos add drive and hold. Some people find them tracky. The surfers that do well with them are guys that surf hard off the tail. They have the same flex as the regular speedialers which is why they hold in so well. If you like riding a wide tail fish in big or hollow surf the turbos are great. You hear alot of complaints that you can’t square a bottom turn backside on a fish. The turbos fix that and let you punch it off the bottom without holding back…
They are available at Rainbows online store

In my experience the turbos are kind of sticky. They don’t turn quite as sharp, and don’t release as easy (this may be because I am comparing them with the flat cutaways where the turbos I have are not cutaways). With them you are able to hold a higher line, and take off more parallel to the wave on steeper, faster waves.
Thanks all for the input. I just got a new Brian Wynn fish with the speed dialer turbo’s. Looks like I could have a chance at trying them out in pretty decent surf on Thursday morning. Thanks!
Another related question. Are the box angles and for-aft settings different for the Dialers than the turbos? In other words is there one box fitting that would allow effective use of both sets for comparisons? I’m getting ready to order some lokbox Speed Dialers. I also am interested in trying the turbos. Mike
The fin dimensions are the same, so you just use the same mark, or setting for both sets.
Thank you. Mike
