Hi Guys'
Thought it was about time to get some Pics in ! This is a fin i'm making from my own design , its made from Utile, Maple and English Oak and is in the rough foiling stage so any input to the design would be cool!

Are you able to use your fin in a 10" Box? How are you glassing it?
this is the last one I made…Bass and Walnut…glassing this on my next board.

Hi Gallagher174,
Yes mate just copying the base to fit the fin box off another fin . I'll be using 1 lam of 6oz to try and keep the flex that i've created with the foiling. I love your old school checker pattern in Bass and Walnut very cool! How do you go about glassing your fins/skeggs?
in for a board Im working on now. Redwood and Bass.

Hi, I was wondering if i would get any more replies on this thread. I guess my fin is just not good enough for a reply from the guys who have been at it since Noah sailed into the blue yonder.
I've checked out your website, some great looking boards. The Peruvian Walnut works well with the Alaskan Cedar
Cheers Martin
maybe they didn't see it?
Hi Huck ,
When i first did the thread the picture was in view, it must have dropped to page BLAH' knocking off the pic. Thanks for putting it back on for me!

No problem. I'm not a longboarder, but that is sure a wild looking fin! I'd love to hear what others have to say about it, or even your explanation of the design. Looks rad!

... your explanation of the design...???

I'd also like to hear it.
Your wood work looks good and I like the colors, but the fins I have ridden that have the bump on the back don't turn well, but that is just my opinion
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your interest in my Long board fin. As i said before it is still in the foiling stage and I was looking for suggestions on the design. My thoughts were to create a fin with volume ,but still have manoeuvrability. I'd like to say i approached the design scientifically with slide rule,Nautical Architects hand book, Cad design etc. After studying thousands of fins on here, other web sites, fin makers , fish fins etc, etc, etc I just went with the flow of my hand and eye and liked what i saw !!!!!
Cheers Martin
What if one of the bumps were made more flexible? I wonder what that would do?
Hi Monkstart,
The tail section is a lot more flexible than the lower mid section due to its length and foil.I was hoping to keep this characteristic with a light glass job .

there i alot going on in your design recreation boomerang, rudder cavitation ect, much of it has been tried before with mixed reviews, but if it works for you then thats all that matters,But if you are looking for validation then you start at the premise does it work better than lets say a standard raked fin ect…nature has something to say about foils look to the sea and you will find the commonality among finned creatures.show your foil profiles what is it that you believe will be the result?the basics of all fins have common ground there has to be something to be said about that.On a side note go to Maui Sails and see what Barry S sail designer says about a owl feather for inspiration and how it relates to his foils. it is under forum /videos section.
Hi Privateer,
I joined the Maui Sails Forum and checked out the Owls wing video, interesting stuff with the flex ,recoil and weight to strength, only mother nature can do that. It just goes to show that Nature is a good Bench mark for most designs. Thanks for the input.
