Longboard cloth width

I am about to order a roll of fibreglass. This time specific for surfboards.

I’ve been searching but I can’t find the answer I am looking for.

My boards are usually 23"-23,2" wide and 3-3,2 thick. Is 30" wide cloth enough for making normal laps with?

If anyone got some advice on surf cloth in Europe? got a offer on a roll of Porcher cloth.

30" wide cloth for longboards is typical and you can get up to a 2 1/2" [6.4cm] lap on each side at the 23" widepoint.

The lap measurement is from the apex of the rail to the deck.

Hi Jode-

Porcher is the parent company of BGF/Aerialite. Maybe your vendor can check the model # and let you know what the treatment is. I had to explain ‘Volan’ and ‘Silane’ to the local composites guy so I didn’t end up with ‘green’ glass when I wanted ‘clear’.

Yes 30" is plenty to get you a nice cut-lap or extra room if you’re the nervous type on free-laps.  If you want those nice big fat old school 3—4" cut laps you’ll have to jump to 38" with substantially more waste.  On free laps I typically use 27".    I have gotten 1"—1 1/2" cut laps out of 27" on a longboard.  It’s all about cost and waste.  30" is most common.  Lowel

Thanks guys! The picture really helped a lot.

I don’t know how i couldn’t find the thread you linked to above, I’ve been searching like a madman.

My laps are usually 2" but i would like to try to go a little wider.

Did not know the Porcher / Aerialite connection, cool.

They seem to sell one that is a little wider as well 6 oz 3910 Wide 31.5” (800mm)

It’s named " surfboard cloth" and super should be very clear.

There used to be a worthwhile savings, in the past, by purchasing 60 inch wide cloth, and using an electric knife to cut the roll in half.        It was routine, when I had Surf Systems and Surfboards Hawaii.    Something else for you to consider.
