or alternately you could make a long board with a hard case.

Get the Santa Cruz hard case. Mine has made four trips to Hawaii with no damage to two “Longboards” (9’ 0" and 8’ 4") in one case. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, go with what is proven, and works.
