longboard questions

Ok, I am deciding to make a long board, but know not much about them. I just need it for small summer surf and im gonna make it about 9’5". What I needed to know are these : 1. Do I need any concave in the board. 2. If any where. 3. How will I make it a nose riding longboard. 4. How thick and wide. (nose, tail, mid). It would be great if a guy that makes either alot of long boards or all long board to answer me so I get correct answers. Thanks Guys!

Too many variables.

Ask yourself what do you want and what have you liked in the past and work from there. Go to a surfshop and take a look at the boards and see if there is something you like. as far as bottom features search the archives.

  1. it isn’t an absolute necessity, but would greatly improve the ride.

  2. i like a concave nose (great for noseriding), VERY flat in the center of the board, and a vee out the back.

  3. for a traditional-style noserider, keep it fairly broad at the nose and throughout much of the board. then tuck it in at about the last 2-feet as you approach the tail. i’d recommend a nice big square tail.

  4. i’m doing a very classic style board right now, with a bit of a modern kick to it. it’s a gift for my dad, but if you send me an e-mail i’d be happy to share some more of the details.

any thing you make will set parameters of use.

IOW it wont work sometimes.

other times it will work ok

there will come a day it will work unreal

make the board big and fat

so you can strip it down

and reshape it into

a hot performance stick.

you are embarking in a long curve learning process

dont make the mistake of questing the disapointment

of a hot board the first time out of the gate.

being a little disapointed is a natural result

and making the next two is an eventuality

you will surely have to address on the long curve

learning.Concaves are tricky and are demonstrative

aka see my concave?

making a board symetrical

is hard enough.

the longer they are

the easier it is to have bumps.

…ambrose…

make a phil edwards 1965

and worked great at
