longboard skateboard shaping

All, I’m gonna build my own deck(mini longboard) and am going to glass it and make it look purty. How will I know how thick to make it so it doesn’t break? Is there some math behind this? I don’t want to waste time and materials only to have it break. I kind of wanna do it right the first time(errr, second, or third) Any suggestions on how to go about this? Material suggestion? Would this even be possible without getting too thick? Much appreciated. ps-if this doesn’t belong here, or you guys don’t want to read this kind of stuff, let me know.

good link! Thanks Herb! that site should answer most of my questions and give me the direction that I needed.

there are also quite a few manufacturers that will sell you wood straight out of the mold uncut, so you will still shape it yourself but its actually built right. try searches for Blank Skateboards and skateboard manufacturing. http://paradoxdistribution.com

Herb- I love the the Edge Taco that I just picked up from ya…wow is it fast. It almost got away from me on La Palma and crushed by a truck. Anyone who is looking for one should contact Herb…thing is SWEET… Thanks again Herb, Dave

thanks for the tips guys! this project has gone from pipe dream to reality thanks to all of your responses. can’t wait to start. chris

are the deck blanks good quality blanks or more like the skateboards you buy at walmart?

…Very glad you liked it!!!..The Spitzer HyperEdge Taco is a unique original. It’s looks different, and rides like no other cruiser/hill racer. …People have bought or traded for one from me and admit that they could never go back to a standard flatdeck, even if the flattie has flipped ends and concave, there’s just no comparison. That’s because there’s nothing in it’s class. It stands alone. In a world of re-hash this baby is in it’s own genesis.Herb

and would they be any good on a halfpipe?

…No,not in the present shape. If you put kicks in the Taco during pressing it kills the spiral flex,or it would be like any other skateboard.Great for big open bowls, snake runs, banks, and is king in big open ditches…It is a carver not a click-clack board!!! …I say no,but someone out there might re-define 1/2 pipe skating.who knows? …You can add kicks by blocking and that doesn’t seem to hurt the spiral flex as much. …prices are $150.00(don’t laugh the price is going to go up 50 bucks+++ soon) for a double formica(top and bottom)custom 12"x38" Taco Deck with holes drilled.(specify holes to be old or new school). That’s just the deck, no tape, yadda yadda yadda.Formica colors and texture to be my choice, and what’s available to me.Woods used are my choice and what are available to me.ALL are first rate quality unmatched anywhere.Herb

I have a used but excellent prototype I can let you have dirt cheap, just for you.See the deck on the photo archive under skateboards. The white formica bottom one.Herb …e-mail me if your interested???

i`m sure you think you did. but first you invented urethane wheels or so the rumor goes. herbie your posts should come with a shovel.

still tuzo’s punk boy sMax I hear you like it backside big and hard

I sure wouldnt want "User Dave" as my internet backup buddy! Whats up with spewing all your homocentric tendancies? This is supposed to be a surfboard design forum.

…I did invent the Spitzer Taco HyperEdge Racing Board w/ no help from anyone else, like it or not. …As far as the urethane wheel goes it was used 15 years before it was introduced to skateboarding.I got my first rubber and/or urethane wheels from the local roller rinks 6-8 years before Nasworthy capped on it.You watch too many half baked surf/skate movies Max. …I sold Russ Howell his first set of urethane wheels back in 73’,In the movies Supersessions or Dogtown you can see the set I sold him on that solid oak board of his.He still has that set of wheels TODAY.If you’re really Max, then you know Russ…as him,if you don’t have his e-mail address I can provide it for you! …If you don’t have any real input to further educate the folks here at Sways then don’t post here again.Herb

…If I need your help I’ll ask,else wise split!!!Herb
