I’m looking for a full time job in North County San Diego, I have 10+ years experience shaping, glassing, installing fin systems and sanding, I work with both poly and epoxy,I have been ghost shaping, shaping private label boards and my boards for years, I could bring a board by to show my work.
Theres plenty of CNC groove smoothers around.
Theres plenty of shortboard clear free-lap resin monkeys to be had.
Now someone who can do great resin color, who has a good color mixing sense for swirls, tints and opaques, can do cleanly trimmed cloth inlays, clean symetrical cutlaps that you can 16th inch pinline without any bumps, can do it all with Poly as well as Epoxy and doesn’t have a drug or alcohol hobby…
That guy is worth his weight in gold!!

Good point! However I’ve seen ghost shapers ruin a perfect cut. I good ghost shaper is actually hard to come by. Drugs play a big part in the surf industry. Therefore is hard to find good reliable craftman. Most of the shapers today either smoke too much cronic or drink. Glasser are even more difficult to find.
If people who work in this industry, expect their jobs to stay viable in this country, they are going to have to be constantly upgrading their skill set and define themselves more as artisans rather than just ordinary assembly line workers.
Because of the lack of organization here on the west coast China will beat us just like they have in the woodworking industries.

If were all lucky, the government will build us a giant factory, say somewhere in southern cal, then they will force us to work for $50 cents a day, hijack the hole village to do this work because nike has got all the other slave labor wrapped up in another province. then we will be organized without drug problems right. I will take the freedom to choose myself. what do you expect, your in the surfboard indusrty.
