looking for keel fin template

hey guys i planing to make keel fins for my retro fish and am looking for a  keel template to print out or a link to some were i can get one. i have never made them before and am not sure  what size and shape to make to suit my 6'2 - 22 - 2 3/8 board  will be making out for redwood to match board stringer

cheers antony

look around, it's the internet.  Then eyeball your own based on what you see.  Use it if you like it, try something different if you don't.

yeah i done some looking and i guess the "norm" is 9inch base with 5inch rise and i looked at a bunch of threads on fishes with keels, i was just thinking someone may have a print out so i can get a good shape. i can just do my own but i know very little on fins i have made a few timber g5s and g7s but i just copyed them off my fcs ones. i know fins can make or break a board and i intend to glass them on so want to get it as close to right as i can before i do

(www.greenlightsurfsupply.com) Has some cool templates among other things.[img_assist|nid=1048778|title=greenlight keel fin template|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=349|height=640]

cheers lavarat printed that out and re-scaled should work out mint, for outline.

hey when you foil a keel is it flat one side foil on other or i have read about 20/80 foils is that just a small foil on inside the rest on out side and what differnce does it make ?

Yeah I was going to suggest that Greenlight template as a starting point.I used very similar size n shape on my first twin keel and no complaints at all.

As for  foil , I think the conventional wisdom is , if you’re going the full retro , no toe , no cant - it’s double foiled for you.

If you’re toeing and canting the fins , which most do nowadays, for performance and user friendliness - single foil.Just a rule of thumb, I guarantee there’s a top tier shaper somewhere who uses all dble foiled keels.

As far as I know ( and I’m just a garage hack and longtime Swayite parroting what I’ve been studying here for years) 80/20 assymetrical  foils seem to be reserved for quad traliing fins.

Looking forward to seeing the fruit of your labours.

thanks for that i think will go with single foil, i think i got a bit confused on the 80/20 foil  i have read way to may things on here and trying to put it into some kind of order cheers for the help
