Well, like the idiot I once was, when I left Santa Cruz back in the 80’s after burning out working O’neill’s (not an uncommon event), I left an entire box of mags including the one you are looking for. There was Surf Guide, Petersen’s “Surfing”, Surfing Illustrated, Atlantic Surfing, and old Surfer’s dating back to the one with Murphy on the cover. I also left a Yater Spoon with a sawed off nose… it was a hard time for me circa 1980-81 due to the bitch I lived with who also ripped me for my Skil 100 which I found out later was traded for a quarter gram of pixiie dust.

Santa Cruz is a gr8 place, but the combo of job, instant family and psycho kitty nearly put me over the edge.

Long story short, I survived, and somewhere underneath a house near Pleasure Point (35th Ave?) is a little storage cubby space with that board and a mother lode of mags.

Try Mike Jipp (sp?) at Lincoln City Surf Shop, Oregon.  He has an Ebay store and wheels and deals in all sorts of Surf related memoribilia from mags to posters, business cards and old boards.  Owns one of the largest collections of Greg Noll related items in the world.  I believe I have seen him list that Issue previously and not for that $$.  Had that issue once, but some “low life” pilfered it and several other SG’s from my high school locker,  I moved on from fantasy and became the real deal after that.   Fess up Sammy-Alabamie.

Bill.

If you have no luck in the US you could also try Al Hunt at http://www.allaboutsurfing.com/ in Oz.

He seems to have a lot of stuff and may have a 'spare" for sale.

The price for that issue on surfwarez is high because it has an article on Dora. I believe the title of the article is “Surfing’s Angry Young Man”. I had that issue when it first came out, but like others here have related, mine got pilfered. While I was in the army (68-69) my brother and his friends helped themselves to my magazines and records.

Mike Jipp tends to ask rather high prices, also. He is “lcsurf” on ebay

Joe Tabler’s website is surfbooks.com. I don’t see any Surf Guides listed right now, but he may be a source if someone unloads a collection.

If you really need a copy I would keep checking ebay

Thank you.

Bill,  If you have no luck, I can send you mine for a few days, if that will help somehow.

Since we are on the subject of old surf mags, I have about 90% of all the surf mags published before Surfing started, and many, (most?), since that era.  I will sell the whole collection for a fair price.  All are in poor to, fair-at-best condition

sickdog.

Thank you, I did have some luck.   Many thanks to all contributors.
