Lost and Firewire join together to make boards

hi bert

welcome back:)

back to topic

Anyway in a moment of spiritual clarity

i had a realisation

i was just about to make a point about cottage industry and the subsistance market.

how it was the only true way that humans can stop the planet from turning into the

garbage strewn turd river that is third world industrialisation.

And how ironic that a great and generous guy like Roy Stewart who has chosen this greener path has been banned from this forum.

Its ironic that he is actually been using some of these “high tech materials” for 15 years, in composite surfboard construction.

hes been using perimeter stringers the whole time, epoxys, greener materials, and an ongoing and deep understanding of flex patterns and the engineering concepts behind this.

Its strange that some of his building methods and theories have been recycled by the “high tech” big industry names and labeled as their own.

And further more disturbing, that his banning was based on unprovoked malice by certain members of this forum who felt jealous and threatened by roys popularity.

And their weak and pathetic argument, that roys claims of speed and performance of his unusual boards were false (as a justification for their hatred) and some sort of an affront to the purity of American surf history. When in reality every major boardbuilder, finbox producer and resin producer that posts here also makes similar claims about there own products(manufactured with ethics or not). And the true history of surfing is in reality completely distorted by the drugs, lies and scandal that is still today, all to prevalent in this sport.

But what really blows me away, is grown men (and women) trying to emulate the free market environmental disaster of their babyboomer ancestors. And continue to rape and pillage the environment in the effluent wake and litter of their predecessors selfish decadence.

bernie your right

if (in a moment of mental illness) i was planning to scrape a bit of cash out of third world industrialisation.

id do it making small valuable things that dont cost 100$ to transport

solosolo

i think i need a stick to poke this one down

Hm Maybe i missed something further back …

many sides to the story…

but i think your trying to say that all those surfers who live in appartments , or have no facilities to make there own board , would be better off to make there own close to home because its greener ?

and a guy in his backyard will release less harmful substances into the enviroment than an asian producer ?? or any other manufacturer ?

unless you have state of the art extraction systems , and a waste management program focusing on recycling and reuse…

then i would say maybe backyard or close to home isnt that green after all …

surfers are not going away , not everyone will build there own …

what choice does the guy off the street have when it comes to getting a board and keeping the planet greener ???

also thanks for the welcome back …

its been a slog , but ready to start selling boards again …

there was a certain quality needed before i felt i could stand up and say "im proud to put my label and reputation behind them "…

also clarifying comments to Greg …

its not an easy thing to walk into another country set up shop and start business …

all the current Asian manufacturering facilities are mostly owned by Asians …

so now you have to introduce , production systems , the hand over of technical information and everything associated with the production of the item …

will that be in english or chinese ??

unless the person doing translation has a complete working knowledge of the concepts being translated …

it wont read the same and the types of errors that come into technical docs is mindboggling …

hence , last option is to personally show people …

but if you dont speak the same language , then many basic concepts are difficult to grasp without an explanation …

lack of technical information and communication and we ask why its not happening ?

easy , just ring up China and they will sort containers full of perfect product at a price less than we can get materials for …

thats what people get told , but they find a different picture when the container door opens …

dtonee pom put thai

por-wah me tum-gnarn gup kun thai tukwan

nak-lian sorn dai mai yark mak …

(now i speak thai , because have work with thai people everyday , students can learn very easy )

long story short …

get the communication better and it comes together …

the subject in this thread , its all good …

take a good idea and make it better…

hope Matty B likes his new board …

also apologies to anyone who sent an email to the address mentioned here on my profile …

needed to stay underground until we were ready for business …

i just found out the address was shut down and all mail returned to sender …

if anyone needs to get me , its all currently up to date …

regards

BERT

Bert, glad your back. I know the difficulty in setting up a production anywhere much less in a country where there’s a communication barrier. Fact is when we were at FW we had that barrier sussed but the powers that be wouldn’t utilize that advantage. Fact that Sam understands and speaks Thai and has been involved with building boards, and compsands, for over 20 years and was ignored was just one piece of incompetence from the top.

Nice to hear that your up and running. All the best and all the luck. Hope you kill it, you desearve to. But there are still hundreds of domestic boardbuilders who should be given the means to build cutting edge product. This shouldn’t threaten your project at all and isn’t meant to.

the other piece everyone is ignoring is the cost of transport.

little factories or coops strategically located through the world if done for a reasonable cost along with a long term storage option could be the next progression of the business side of this all…

I don’t think so. Shipping of a container full of boards is about $15 pr. board from China. So the potential save on transport is very low unless you make alot of boards. Add that the cost of a domestic factory or storage is most likely alot higher than in China, it does not make economical sense to produce locally.

That’s changin’…

it does not make economical sense to produce locally.

It always makes sense to produce locally. That is if you have any desire whatsoever to be in touch with your local market. If not could I suggest a future in widgets?

i dont really care about big business

its doesnt really have business here

and should mind its own business

bert sorry i was not directing at you specifically

the post was comming anyway, but you happend to wear the force of the blow

whether it be surfboards or sandshoes or MATT biolas clothing range

thirdworld industrialisation is the doom of the planet

shit flows down the rivers and little kids swim around through the garbage and shit

the whole thing stinks and its the legacy of the greed of a fair percentage of baby boomers

fck them

theve had there turn and are still fcking it up

these people will remembered and hated for all eternity as ones that made the forests and animals dissapear

this makes no sense whatsoever.

your talking about a vacuum cleaner and a garbage bin

also everyone know that rivers around asian factories are poison shit filled pus pits

and the smog in china makes people choke. so please come back to planet earth

your rhetoric is based on whats seems very limited personal experience.

ill give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your company acts responsibly

but i think its unreasonable to compare yourselves better then small local producers for environmental reasons

yeah i swapped a board for some veges and buidling work
