the guy who made 'ether' [book] , glass love , and litmus [dvds]

maybe it is too 'modern' for some old folks here eh ....

Tell us about it, Chip - I’m sure it’s wonderful, I dig Kidmans work.

How much does Wayne Dean feature for ex. ?

At nearly 120 bucks NZ  I’d need to know it’s worth it - I can almost build a board fro that much coin .

edit after a bit of sleuthing

Surfamag photo feature

hi mate !

thanks heaps for sharing that link ! Clicking on the photos there , and reading the captions , gives you a good idea of where Andrew is coming from in this film ...a great design and insights film , judging by the book's interviews.

  wayne dean ?

he gets six pages ...four of interview, and a groovy photo spread including showing off a big fin panel .

I LOVE his surfing [that CUTBACK photo by hugh mcleod is a classic , to this day !] , and I want to watch the dvd , but I'm mesmerised by the book and piccies , at present !

  cheers !

Thrillkiller, eh?  That's what you've got for wit?  What's got your knickers so wadded up your ass?    You asked a question, and got an honest answer.    No, it doesn't interest me.   What about that is so hard to deal with?   Am I old?    Yes, so what?   Too modern for me?   Hardly.    Don't get so emotionaly invested in the subject.   My answer was not a shot at you personally.   So, I would appreciate it if you would refrain from taking cheap shots at me.    It tends to bring out the worst in me.

I got a copy, he did a series with a book as well and its all good stuff, I am an MP fan and its cool stuff, Kidman is lucky to have the chance to hang with MP and ride his old boards, epic…Kidman seems to be a top bloke too, he was willing to trial one of my travelling boards recently but he was away toring wih his band so it didnt happen…next time…go out and get his DVD’s, they are all good and no commercial BS to be seen…

thanks mr. pridmore !

the stuff that M.P. , in particular,  says I found educational , enlightening , and interesting . It was GREAT to hear him SPEAK , and have such detailed coverage and honesty about the so-called ' morning of the earth board'. from the details given , anyone who wanted to do the retro thing could have a go . [It was also generous of the board's owner , I thought . ]

definately worth getting , for that alone !

and the 8 channel 'dream board' squaretail that kidman rides at kirra is very interesting too.

it's the quotes from dave parmenter and simon and wayne that I found very encouraging for us tinkerers and backyarders .

very refreshing to see a dvd with boards dimensions and test rides and people's experiences shared .... this would have to be the closest thing to the much talked about but never happened 'swaylocks' dvd .

as you say , the absence of commercial 'b.s.'  , and wheelbarrow-pushing in andrew's films , IS a refreshing chance .

and the music is easy on the ears , always good in 'lasting the distance' in a surf movie .

  cheers

i hope kirk gee here  will ...er...'chip' in with his 2 cents worth , as he has met and worked with some of the people in the film [yes , richard kenvin and his 'hydrodynamica' thing  even gets a mention , guys !]

I’m not in it so not interested.
Only joking, sounds worth a view chipster, bring it around if you could. Never was a Litmus fan, too much druggie crap on what I bothered watching. Sometimes when you rewatch with a different mindset your thoughts change so maybe it’s time to play it again Sam.

it's mostly australians in it , Ross ....so it should interest us , at least !

..... maybe i can bring it into the shop tomorrow , if you're working then ? [mind you ,  the surf league is on too and looks like there will be some great surfers there , so ...see what happens eh ?!]

mate you musta watched the [bad] 'dream' [animation] sequence of 'Litmus' , a very small [and worst , for SURE !] part  of that film ...you needed to watch the derek hynd and wayne lynch surfing stuff !!

'glass love' was even better ...have you seen THAT,  yet ?

  cheers

Chip,

I’m interested in his movies and am interested in the surfers and shapers on your list.  So it’s a movie-book package?   Is it available in the US and, pardon my ingnorance, do Aussie dvd’s work in US machines?  I’m willing to spend a 100 bucks on good book and movie.  Mike

Well Chipsta , I just ordered it

I got a kickback from the taxman the other day so figured I’d indulge myself -

Rooster , it needs to be bought through Kidmans website , that link I posted before , - as far as DVD zoning you can ask AK via the site , but I imagine if he’s produced it for international release it’d be multi zone ( don’t take my word for it though I’d hate to be blamed if you’re disappointed ).

And I’ll blame you Ben if the wife has me on about the book , ha !

its got all the dims of an MP ( very similar to the MP cutty board but not the exact one ), every dim so easy to replicate it, maybe we can have a shape off and we could all create our version of it, mighjt be cool and a bit of fun I reckon ???

anyone in the states interested, just contact Andrew via his site, he is cool and should be no probs to send to the states…

I’m really interested in it ever since reading a write-up in SW magazine (last year I think). I find his take on surfing and associated subjects pretty compelling and a refreshing alternative (not as in “hippy” alternative) perspective on things.

But sadly the cost is just too prohibitive - feed the kids or buy the Kidman flick?

Mike I just bought the Book and Movie using Pay Pal.

It’s $93.00

good on you , Surfding !

...and , it plays all right in your U.S.  dvd system[s] , I hope ??

....I think Michael Mackie's 'winterstick-inspired' flextail ['spacestick']  thingy  might blow a few minds [not to mention Richard Palmer's ...er...."fins" [?!] ....I wish  they were both on here , it's always good to have some "mad" 'scientists' on board  at Sways ?!
