Aloha Ambrose, I found a message on our answering machine late this afternoon… Jimmy Rodelo, excitedly tumbling his words, describing a recent mat session shared with yourself and David Monasevitch. A large left point… three surfers totally and unequivocablly challenged, physically, mentally and technically! A breakthough achieved by lowering the bar. Your words paint the enigma: “… ride prone on your own breath…” Hawaiian Tony Lum shares in this same spirit: “Sitting on the shore, staring out to sea, preparing to return to Mother Nature’s womb. Meditating on the rhythm of the swells as they ascend and descend in time with the measure of the ocean floor. The melodies of the waves drown out all negative energy. The sound of breathing reverberates everywhere. Waves created by a far-off wind, Mother Nature’s breath. Air expelled from human lungs, breathing life into this inflatable wave-riding craft. The breath of life pulled deep and pushed long. It is meditation. Zen. Surfing. Gliding on the liquid manifestation of cyclical energy created by a distant breath. This is a spiritual dance that has long, deep Polynesian roots. Alien missionaries deemed surfing to be a sinful pastime of backward heathens, but for the Hawaiians, it was sacred. Breath was also sacred. It is the essence of life. Mana. In Hawaiian culture, people would greet one another by standing face to face and simultaneously inhaling and exhaling each other’s breath. What would the ancients think of mat surfing? Using the Mana of one’s breath to perform the spiritual act of surfing on a wave formed by the energy of nature’s own breath. No wonder these surf mats feel so alive! There is some powerful magic going on here. All things considered, it’s funny to hear people refer to surf mats as just another pool toy. I can see how some might be offended. Perhaps it’s all just nonsense. Don’t spend too much time thinking about it. Take a deep breath, let go and the surf mat will show you the way. Aloha.”
Smokin a little too much of the weed tonight? What are you tryin to talk about?
High on mat fumes. The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.
WTF “breakthrough”? Whatz “Lowering the bar”? Ancient Hawaiians inhaling each others breath? WTF! Huh? This is supposed to be Swaylocks. Not “Cryptic Bizarre Message Forum”
“Lowering the bar” - encapsulates the concept. Another classic.
it took me a while to decipher what ambrose is saying(it always does!). but in the end, a damn fine post if I may say. good stuff
a damn fine post indeed.
The “A” man always gets me thinking especially after having met and surfed with him at Big Sur. Keep posting Ambrose!!!
tony lum …thanks the words help validate suspicions of the presence of a common mind/breath…some say Ha ole means without breath…let us breathe together with the ocean as orchestral players…basso profundo …allegro ? the melodies weaving within the truth , as the gift continues to flow from the dynamic source… whoa aint this life great… ambrose…walking down the street to check the waves
I like the whole lowering the bar idea, that way normal folk (myself) have a better chance of perhaps meeting it. Aim low and accomplish.
Ambrose-food of the gods=food for thought?? Carry on my friend!
Are you guys proud to have your own little treehouse club? “Members only, closed to outsiders” ?? ? Secret handshake and password required.
Well, it’s not a private club, anyone can read it – try to think if it like poetry…You just have to read a lot of Ambrose’s stuff, consider it as stream of consciousness, and extract what you can from it. Or, like poetry, just skip it if it’s not interesting to you.
To critics of Ambrose: Purchase W. Burroughs anthology, forget all grammatical teachings, dim lights, slap elbow pit with index/middle finger combination in mock main-line fashion and enjoy his cryptic verses. D. Pieri
This thread isnt free verse it s bullshit! NONE of you guys really know what that dudes ever babblin about! But none of you will admit it. Why? Cause you think if you stick together you can all sound like poindexters down with the top brain intel. you
re all friggin clue-less!
If you don’t like the program, change the channel. I enjoy the writting’s of Mr. Ambrose. On second thought just crawl back into your mindless little hole and join the soulless.
I’m not part of the club, but it still amuses me. There are plenty of people to heckle, entertaining scatterbrains like Ambrose, is not one of them. getting on peoples case for that political discussion of BUY American You bet, heckle away. That Assuie could use a couple more shots too.
