hello i was thinking of making a surboard and i was was going to get solarez and Sanding Resin Quart w/Mekp Catalyst Hardener would i be good then?
There is a lot to learn before you start your first board. SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH this forum. All the questions you have right now have already been answered.
Howzit jammer, There are a lot of other things you will need to build a board, first you need a blank. There was a thread within the last few weeks that had all the tools and materials needed to make boards. Like jjlam said do a lot of research first. Actually when you figure out how much it will cost for all the tools andmaterials involved you would be better off just buying a board but you have to start somewhere. Aloha,Kokua
hello im takeing about the chemicals?
Howzit jammer, Remember you are dealing with a lot of pro board builders as was I and you need to go into a little more detail when posting questions. How big a board are you thinking of building and if I were you I would buy a gallon of solar resin and Catalyst and surfacing agent (to make the sanding resin) if you have an area where there will be no sunlight, direct or indirect since indirect will set off the solar resin alomost as fast as direct sunlight. There are a whole lot of materials / chemicals and combinations of materials / chemicals that can be employed in “Makeing a surfboard”.
If you are interested in solarez, then you are looking at a UV catalyzed polyester resin. There are a lot of other options, each have their own good points and bad points.
Searching this site and reading will help you determine the good points / bad points of each material / chemical combination that you can employ to create a new surfboard.
Personally, I like epoxy and hollow wood…
Good luck!
