Hi people, first post but been lurking for a fair few months…
I’m about to order the bits & pieces for installing Futures fin boxes and leash plugs. The trimmer compatible with the Futures slide base is a Makita RT0701; I have an RT0700 and I think these are the same, the RT0701 being the US version and RT0700 UK. Contacted Makita, no response, can not find any info on the net which indicates that except the voltage, everything else if the same.
So does anyone here know - is the Makita RT0701 is the same as the RT0700? Failing that, if any of you folks in the US have a Makita RT0701 and if it’s not too much trouble, I’d be really grateful if you could measure the body without the tool base and let me know. The RT0700 is 65mm so I’m really hoping the RT0701 is the same.
Yes. It’s the same. It’s the base that matters. Harbor Freight US has a $19.95 Router that will also work. It’s the base that matters. Square vs Round.
Mcding. Unless harbor freight changed the design of that router recently… it won’t work. The base doesn’t work right. The base on the makita is about 3/4 " lower, the harbor freight doesn’t allow the bit to go deep enough.
Ive got a RT700C…round base…there’s a neat attachment available that turns into a full plunge router…goes straight onto the 65mm casing…the base has two straight sides a two curved sides…makes it a very versatile unit.
I could have explained that better, I was half asleep.
If you lay the 2 side by side and line up the base of the units. The makita has a 3/4" or so longer shaft. The harbor freight router doesnt give enough depth to use in the sleeves. fully down it only skims the center cut. nowhere near the flange cut. Same with the leash plug. if you use that jig.
Since the bits are 2 piece, they have to be flush against the collet nut to hold in place. Not that I would reccomend extending the bit way out to use the HF router anyways, if the bits were 1 piece.
