marking rails when shaping

i was wondering if the people on this site mark the rails they are shaping, that is if you are planning on having turned up rails in the tail, 60/40 in mid and turned down in the nose do you mark the rails accordingly and then plane? i hope i am asking the question in an understandable way.

I used to do that to, that way I felt more sure of the outcome. What I made is a 90 degree hook with little holes where the marker goes thru, when sliding alongside the rail you create a line wich you can use for shaping the rails. This is a parallel line however, you have to adjust when the railshape is changing. These are the rough lines , the rest is sightwork. Good luck.
