When I pull the tape I get glue from the tape remaining on the board. I can get it off by using fresh tape but is there a way to keep it from happening? Am I using the wrong tape? Is my resin too hot?
As I recall, 3M #233 is the ''go to'' tape for resin work. Hot batch resin, and not pulling the tape early, can sometimes result in the tape adhesive being left behind. Using fresh tape to lift the residual adhesive is a very valid proceedure. There may be other tape brands that are also in use with resins. Resinhead, or Atomized, would know the current state of the art. Their word on the subject would be bankable, IMO.
Search for ‘Hi-temp’ tape. I think the adhesive is stable up to around 250F so you have no problems with polyester kicking and melting the adhesive to the board. There are other brands out there but the 3M products are top notch.

233 is the call but you can't get it in ''regular'' stores. Look for it at places that supply auto body shops if you don't have a ''surf supply'' or boatbuilder's store near you.
I get shit for this every time I post but the 3M blue painter's tape has NEVER left residue on boards I've glassed. You can leave it on as long as you want and it still doesn't leave residue. For someone like me who occasionally does a hot coat or fill coat just before leaving for a real job, it works fine.
I've had to use acetone and scrape with razor blades to remove residue from 233 but it is still the best tape for masking off resin tints, color work, etc.
Auto parts stores carry the 233+ green tape, but at $7 a roll it’s expensive. Many paint and body supply places don’t even carry 233 regular anymore, because the 233+ doesn’t bleed paint under the tape as 233. Good thing my wife’s sister works for 3M and gets this stuff for about 50% off.
