I’ve tracked down a 24" x 48" x 96" 2# EPS Foam block for $50 in Wilmington, NC that I won’t be able to pick up for a couple of weeks at the earliest.
I don’t really need a solid block but during a recent virtual material foraging excursion this popped up and I’m arranging to pay to hold it because it’s a pretty sweet deal.
If you’re seriously interested and can get down that way please PM me and we can make arrangements to check and score it.
Thanks,
Brian
I saw that block of foam a few weeks ago. It has been outside for a long time and has it is quite beat up and yellowed being stored out behind the hardware store. Good price per pound if you want that size. they sell #1 foam in 1x2x16 ft billets for about eighty bucks. I was tempted but turned it down as I prefer the 1ft width for the hot wire setup that I have. You can order #2 billets through them any size you want for twice the the cost of the #1 per cubic ft. No shipping cost but you have to wait until they make a big order of the #1 which is mostly used for dock floats. I have used both the #1 and the #2 for my surf boards with great sucess. I get it in the one foot width and hotwire each half then glue the glue the stringer to the nice straight factory edge. Michael in Wilmiington
I was looking for sheets for another project when I came across that. He was pretty up front about the condition but at $50 you could throw away most of the foam and still come out way ahead.
Do they have any of the 1 x 2 x 16 in stock at the moment?
Randy didn’t mention it.
While we’re on the topic of materials, I also came across a deal on 60" wide Airelite 4oz S glass -
The only hitch?
You have to purchase 391 yards.
DOH!
Did you see the ad for 6 oz S-Glass in Craigslist (Wilmington, NC) at $6 a yard? Can’t remember how wide it was but it advertised it was wide enough for an SUP. If gas weren’t so friggin’ expensive I’d drive around and pick up some supplies to build my own board (but then I’d need enough time to build it, doh!).
