A buddy of mine has become obsessed with the McCoy nugget and has convinced me to shape him something similar (he doesn’t have the means to acquire the real thing). I have ridden a 7’2 nugget, but I haven’t seen one in quite a while and don’t have any good references.
I know from reading the archives that there are some die-hard nugget heads out there . . . I would be grateful if some of you would share some details about your boards. I plan on making something in the 6’6 range (maybe about 13.5-14" nose, 20 -21" wide pt, and 16-17" tail??), but I would really appreciate any suggestions or details, particularly about rocker and bottom contours. (I read in the archives about the shape of the rolled V sections, but i’m not entirely clear on their placement.) I plan on using a Clark 6’9 A blank to accommodate the wide tail and the thickness he’s looking for, but I expect that I’ll have to add some rocker in the tail. Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I hope this post doesn’t offend any of you who are really committed to Geoff’s designs-- I have no illusions about being able to simply recreate what he has mastered, but I’m intrigued by the design and would like to learn more about the key elements. Besides, imitation is the a form of flattery, right? Thanks for any help . . .
