McCoy Nugget dimensions

A buddy of mine has become obsessed with the McCoy nugget and has convinced me to shape him something similar (he doesn’t have the means to acquire the real thing). I have ridden a 7’2 nugget, but I haven’t seen one in quite a while and don’t have any good references.

I know from reading the archives that there are some die-hard nugget heads out there . . . I would be grateful if some of you would share some details about your boards. I plan on making something in the 6’6 range (maybe about 13.5-14" nose, 20 -21" wide pt, and 16-17" tail??), but I would really appreciate any suggestions or details, particularly about rocker and bottom contours. (I read in the archives about the shape of the rolled V sections, but i’m not entirely clear on their placement.) I plan on using a Clark 6’9 A blank to accommodate the wide tail and the thickness he’s looking for, but I expect that I’ll have to add some rocker in the tail. Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this post doesn’t offend any of you who are really committed to Geoff’s designs-- I have no illusions about being able to simply recreate what he has mastered, but I’m intrigued by the design and would like to learn more about the key elements. Besides, imitation is the a form of flattery, right? Thanks for any help . . .

Joyride,

There are so many factors that go into Geoff’s designs that really only Geoff’s boards ride like Mccoys. You can still use some basic priciples that he uses like the board supporting the surfer it’s intended for and wide back ends. Your measurements don’t look out of line. Don’t be afraid of thickness. I have a board shaped out of the 6’9’’ A you mentioned and it rides good. That blank is a good choice for the type of board you are trying to make. If you look at the small single fin quiver thread here the blue double ender single fin is the one. It’s 6’6’'x 17 x 23 x 18 x 3 1/4

Thanks a lot for the input. As I said in my first post, I have no illusions of recreating the whole package; I’m basically just after some of the basic design features. Your point about thickness is well taken-- any thoughts on bottom contours? I’m was planning to make it a thruster set up, by the way. . . bad idea?
