Anyone try the a-little-further-back-a-little-closer-to-the-stringer(rears) quad set ups, especially on smaller sub 6’ boards? Experience and/or pics would be awesome as well as fins used.
I just made a 5’6 biscuity/stubby shape with the fronts @ 10.75in up from tail, 1.25in in from rail, 1/4 toe. Rears at 5in up from tail, 2.25in in from rail, 1/8 toe. Tail is a hair under 16in.
I made a Quad for John Johnson and he didn’t like the McKee set-up. He said he couldn’t throw his fins out… worked great for speed, down the line, and he got some good barrels with the board, but said it wasn’t good for slashing carves and throwing his fins out.
Yeah, i didn’t want to fully commit to the formula so i kind of went the in-between route. I pushed my rears further towards the rail then his formula suggests. 2.25in from the rail seems like a lot on paper, but with a 16in tail, it looks good to my eye. We’ll see!! Pics tonight.
