Are you from the Signal Hill area? I come from a skateboard background - bombing signal hill is always a rush - the first time I did it it was at night. By the time I started skating the hill had been on lock down for years.
Have you ever been the the skatelab up in simi valley?
never been to the lab…but i have heard of it…i use to live about 1/2 mile from hill st. on loma and 14th in LBC. use to bomb it at night…got a speeding ticket for going 56.6 in a 25 zone there…lol…still have the ticket !

Herb, just curious, any tension between the black kids and the white kids in Compton and Lynwood when skating? I used to live there in the 60’s. Hunnington Park, too. Remember the smoke from the Watts riots. People were afraid. Cool pictures. Are you still making skates and riding them? Mike

yes i still make customs and riding them…real backyard pools are what i am about…i just attended steve alba’s 50th in upland a few weekends ago…no less that a loud riot !!!
as far as tensions between the races…not in our circle…we were brothers in arms…plus we were protected/bless by king james(leader eastside crips), i unknowingly gave his younger brother kenny a skateboard ,and king james thanked me for it, saying no one ever did nothing like that for him or his family,i also gave several boards away to the locals there in compton/lynwood on my birthday…at that moment i became a bodi …i lived in hp during the original riots in the 60s…i lived on randolph and maywood st. (bell border)…small world huh !
