Messed up shaping longboard. Weird Dims

Hola Swaylockians,  I shaped a longboard that ended up being 9’4 long, 16.5" nose, 22" wide, 14" tail, 7" tail block by 3" thick.  These were not the dims that I originally was shaping for but made a few major mistakes and ended up with a much narrower board than i planned on (First time shaping).  I wont be making those mistakes again!  I havnt encountered many longboards with such narrow tails.  Is the 14" tail way to skinny for a longboard?  I’m gonna ride the crap out of it anyway but was just wondering.  Thanks

I like it!  Tail looks fine to me.

Cool thanks Huck.  Gonna give a go soon I hope!

SurferO,

While you say that you ‘‘made some mistakes’’, it worked in your favor!      You have a classic mid/late 60’s shape, not unlike a Phil Edwards Model.       You have done very well, by the look of it.      Be proud.

I’ll say this,

Sonny I think you are gonna like the ride and turns!

You have restored my hope for the next, ah

generation…

Real nice work.

Or as I was told on the 1st

“you did better than you deserve, kid”

Stay Stoked

Thanks alot Bill.  It really is an honor getting a compliment from you!  I truly admire your work.

A ride report will be required.

Oh yeaa, I will definately post here once I get a chance to give it a proper test ride!

I also like it!

Did you also do the glassing?

Funny picture.  Go surf it.  My first board was way too thick in the nose and way too narrow in the tail; but the thing worked and I still have it (probably because no one would buy it).

Yup I glassed it too.  Glasing is my favorite part!

I took the board out the other day in Matunuck Rhode Isalnd.  Waves were around 2-3 feet and clean.  Board worker better than I expected and turned verry well.  It felt pretty solid when on the front half of the board too.  Great session.  Thanks for the input everyone!

60’s Phil Edwards Honolulu…

Awesome Pic.  Love too see some classic boards!
