meyerhoffer longboards

Are you serious! You roll up in here "Mr. 3 board from South FL pro" and throw around dumb ass insults at people who wouldn't let you sweep their shaping rooms out!  When you grow up and learn to read without the pictures, please read Mr.Thrailkill's bio. Then it would be appropriate to apologize.

Oh and the peanut thing is just stupid ok, and it really doesn't look cool either...ya think a guy from South FL would know these things!

Can you imagine scurfing down the beach with all the hotties checkin' out your big ass peanut!!!

“I am 16 years old and haven’t learned all the key facts yet.”   Yes, indeed. At least Rick has the guts to come on here and post under his real name.  Kids get extra chances after saying stupid things my world.  I hope he comes back on to learn more,“key facts.”  Like, respect for elders, knowledge, and experience.  A sense of humor would help, too. Mike

When all you tough guys gang up on the underdog I'm always ready to jump in...

First:  I've actually ridden one so I can speak from experience.  Have any of you?

Second:  It worked pretty damn good.  I was able to catch waves easily and bottom turns were solid with good distance projection.  The board also trimmed nicely and made sections I don't know if would have made on a conventional board.  If I had an initial gripe it was that it seemed difficult to kick out if I was locked in to a trim.  I found that by moving my rear foot back I was able to get around that issue.  The glass job seemed solid and the finish was good.  In my informal thumb pressure test, I found little deflection or denting... as with most light weight EPS cores, it tended to spring back.  I think they would be resistant to pressure dents.

Third:  I liked it so much I tried to figure out what made it tick.  After measuring a few key elements, I came to the conclusion that it is anything but conventional.  I also came to the conclusion that the things that made it work (for me) were in the aft third and had little to do with the hourglass outline although I do understand the theory behind it.  It has a fairly deep double concave bottom through the tail and the fins are laid out differently from any conventional factory boards I've seen.  The tail rocker is different as well.  The outline is obviously different but again, I don't think it is as important as the other features.  Meyerhoffer is also doing some more mainstream appearing boards recently.  If the outline of the 'peanut' board is what's bugging people, they might take a look at the more conventional outlined models.  Then again, it might be the country of manufacture.  In that case he also makes customs last I checked.

Fourth:  The broken board photo is a cheap shot.  I've seen brand new famous label longboards broken on the very first paddle out - with not a single wave being ridden.  I've also seen plenty of other boards snapped in two.  None of those were replaced by the manufacturer either.  The brand names aren't important.  What is important is to realize that it happens.  If everyone posted their broken boards all over the internet, it would be crowded with broken board pictures.

To Mr. ricksurf2009:  If you are serious about what I think makes them special, send me a PM and I'll do my best to skip the BS and actually answer your questions.  If your motive in posting was to simply run them down, just skip it and save us both some time.

I have test ridden the 9footer , here is my take.

They catch waves like a longboard

They noseride ok if you are  proficient on the beak

They turn ok off the tail ,  not so good on a big drawn out rail carves

When I set up for a backhand barrel I missed the rail grab ( obvious design fault Thomas )

They look strange (kind of like a 2 stage turd ) and for me a board has to be visually appealing but some people like weird shit.

My HPLB will do everything the hoffer does and more , so it’s a no from me !!

Cheers

Mooneemick

Hey John, glad to see some actual experience with the shape show up here.

Its always hard on these forums to know exactly whats being directed to who, so how to respond becomes confusing at times.  I don't know if I'm in the 'pricks and faggots who should fark off' category  of the o.p., or the 'tough guys who gang up on underdogs' category of yours.  You ask if any of us have ridden one, and I clearly stated that I have never seen one in person, so I guess you're not referring to me?

I honestly never noticed anyone 'ganging up' on anyone, but I concede its all in how you take it.  The o.p. asked what makes them so special.  To me, as an observer of surfboard designs, I would say the plan shape.  While the rocker or fin layout may be somewhat unconventional, I don't think anyone would say "those Meyerhoffers are so special because of their rocker and fin layout".

I also noted a similar shape was covered in the recent issue of Surfer magazine, with photos of the board being surfed, and a ride report.  A legit shape.  So I don't think anything I said would indicate that the Meyerhoffer's shape was "bugging" me, only that the peanut shape was the most outstandingly "special" aspect of the design.  If I'm not mistaken, that's the aspect that advertising for the board focuses on as well, something along the lines of - paddles and trims like a longboard, turns like a shortboard, because of the unusual plan shape.

I posted a pic of a broken board in response to a comment that was made about a 9'3" Meyerhoffer - the board in the photo was 9'2", so I thought there was some confusion, and posted the pic to ask if that was indeed the one being referred to.  Yeah, a few jokes were made, but thats pretty par for the course on a public forum, and I don't interpret anything sinister behind it.  More like good natured banter, to me.

So, it was a "cheap shot" - meaning that the ebay lister who posted that picture shouldn't have done it?  If so, calling it a cheap shot here does little good, since I don't think the ebay poster is part of this forum.  Or was it a cheap shot to mention it?  Or was it a cheap shot to post the picture to find out if that was the one being referred to?  You say, "If everyone posted their broken board pictures, then the internet would be crowded with broken board pictures".  OK.  If everyone posted their vacation pictures, then the internet would be crowded with vacation pictures.  Save bandwidth, don't post broken board pictures.  Since I used the original picture's url to post the pic, am I conserving bandwidth?  I really don't know how that works.  If I deprived someone somewhere of bandwidth, I apologize.  I will go back and delete the picture from my post.

At any rate, all comments, good, bad, funny or otherwise, only serve to keep the thread alive, and allow greater opportunity for the subject to be discussed, and any reviews from those who have them or have ridden them to be shared.  If the o.p. would tell us what he finds so special about them, then it would be easier to identify what makes them so special.  Without knowing what exactly he considers to be special, how can we say what it is that makes them that way?

I think that a lot of the reactions resulted from the o.p.'s 'fark off you pricks and faggots' comment, not from a desire to attack an underdog with an unconventionally shaped board.  This is swaylocks - home of the unconventional board builders.  Like you, I invite the o.p. to tell us more about the intent of his original question.  If you or anyone would care to elaborate on how the fin layout affects performance, or how the unconventional tail rocker affects performance, I'm all ears.  That kind of stuff is what I come here for.

BTW, the Meyerhoffers have been discussed here before.  Yeah, there are mixed reactions to it.  Same as with fish, quads, twinzers, funboards, hws, SUP's, bonzers, lazer zaps, etc.  Seems to go with the territory when discussing surfboard designs.

And finally, Sounds like you are back in the surf - good news after all the grief you've been through with your heart condition, glad to hear it.  I think I speak for everyone here when I say its better to be out there on a Meyerhoffer than not be out there at all, and if the design works for you (or the o.p., or anyone else), then it works.  I would never go on record as being against any shape that a guy is stoked on, just because its unconventional.  If I had a Meyerhoffer, I would not hesitate to paddle out and give 'er a go!

I see what happened here.

A little boy was born, new to the world of surfing and surfboards; he posted to Swaylock, with high hopes of your witty and insightful comments.

Utter shock set in when the next morning he rushed to his computer after eating his Coco Puffs only to see Huck And Bill pointing out the shortfalls of such a vague question.

He felt stupid, the realization he might be a moron was just too much.

Worst still was the fact that only three people had responded and only two directly to him.

He felt ignored, belittled, and rejected by the community he so badly wanted to be a part of.

Like a little child whose mommy was ignoring him he had a little tantrum....."WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...WAAAAAAAAAAAA" he cried!

SSSSHHHHHHH little baby, time to go nappy nappy!

When the child grows a little he will realize swaylock has a search engine that will most likely answer every question in his tinny 16 year old brain.

Then he wont need to post to Swaylock anymore, further lowering his self esteem by exposing his stupidity.

He might also one day realize there is a thing called Spell Check.... and use it...then his ignorance wont be even more clearly visible when he misspells simple words like faggot or straight!

OK. What about words like “tiny” ?

OK. What about words like "tiny" ?
I think if you were to say "tinny" out loud its supposed to sound "teeny". A diminutive of "tiny"?

BUT...I suspect you knew that...eh Sammy?  :D

Its funny I've seen similar posts on car forums. Some kid asked about lowering him mk4 Golf to....ahem....make it handle better...bhahahahaaaa.

Anyways, when he was told not to do it...well....have a read for yourselfs: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=309737

But John........................

What did you tell your mother after you rode the thing?

In my vocabulary, “tinny” refers to the way something sounds. It is pronounced “tinnee”. Rhymes with ninny, or skinny.

Like, “Bose speakers often sound tinny”. (etc…)

It uses the notion that tin is not a high quality material.

Another usage would be something like:

“Carly Simon has a tin ear”.

In this case, it refers to someone’s lack of auditory perception when music is involved.

Or:

My 1976 Datsun truck sounded 'tinny" when I threw the deal seal in the back.

Classic!

This is the best examples of how confrontations come about on Sway's.....or anywhere, coming to think of it.

I say "small" you say "hearing impediment"...

Thanks Sammy, cool facts...

deal seal
is that the kind of seal that seals the deal?

I kid, I kid...

Carry on

I have always seen the diminutive form of “tiny” spelled either “teenie” or “teeny”, never “tinny”. Try saying it out loud.

(To yourself, of course. I sure won’t be able to hear you)

What about it? Ha ha, now you look dumb as well.

Got to shake your head over Old/young Von Elling.

To his credit at least he stuck around for the replies…Ricksurf2009 is awol.

Remember the hotshot (claimed to be) channel 10 Australia cameraman that started a couple of threads a while back about better surf movies and professional surfing?

Hung around long enough to grandstand, suck up a bunch of great ideas from the Swaylocks community for making better surfing movies, brawl with a few and “poof” dissapear never to heard from again!

Hardly.

You wrote: “his

Are you trying to get us to believe you did not mean “tiny”, instead of “tinny”? You were busting balls about spell check, and I thought I’d rib you for lack of same.

But, go ahead and try to convince yourself that you really meant “tinny” and not tiny. It’s all very amusing.

So what did I spell wrong? Your confusing the “proper” word with the “proper” spelling, but hey no worries, I’ll let it slide. Nothing better for self esteem then to correct someones spelling.

Right. From the guy who wrote:

uuhh,…Moderator,

any chance of locking this thread down and filing it into the round bin now that it has  diverted from any semblence of a surfboard design discussion…?

just sayin…
