Has anyone used one ? what are the advantages ?
I wish this guy who can’t even surf and has no right making boards would just go away.
I swear, one of his models looks like a direct rip-off of the boards Stussy was doing a while back.
Im assuming most people here haven’t ridden one and are basing there judgement on his relationship with gsi and his surfing ability. Personally I think its cool hes doing something different, its all surfboards in the end and surfboards are rad !
I tried a demo and liked it enough to buy a longer version. I've ridden it (9'6") too and liked the ride. Mine is the basic GSI EPS/Epoxy version.
I believe the ride quality has more to do with the tail width/curves, bottom contours and fin layout than the hourglass outline.
I've talked to several good surfers who are much better at it than I who agreed that they are good riders.
If anybody has a gripe with Asian manufacture, I have some power tool labels I'd like to share...
There is a possibility that the designs do have scientific merit
As fuselage shape in relation to supersonic fighter jets changed to that similar plan shape to finally break the sound barrier and optimize fuel efficiency.
So far all test pilots have given the thumbs up on all of his boards regardless of
how weird and non conventional.
Weird shape. Looks like a condom with fins.
The first photo I saw of the boards was severely misinterpreted. I thought it showed the noses. My first board - a Morey-Pope 'Richard Deese' design had a deep vee nose so it made some sense the way I saw it. Of course, I had it backasswards....
PS... "Weird shape. Looks like a condom with fins."
With that open-minded analysis in mind, forget the whole thing... it obviously could never work!
They’ve been around for a while now and don’t appear to be gaining in popularity despite positive reviews.
The latest offerings are much more conventional in planshape though.
Meyerhoffer does surf. He may not be a good surfer but he does surf.
His newer boards are not as odd has what he was doing in the past. The hour glass out line is still there just not as pronounced. he does have some interesting things going on with the planing surface and rocker.
Meyerhoffer and McTavish are making the best mid lenght mass produced boards. That being said They are also way over priced.
I would rather have a board by a local shaper. The problem is that even The better shapers seem to dismiss Mid length boards as nothing more then " Fun boards" or make a mini Long Boards or take a basic HPSB and size it up. they just do not put much thought or inspiration into the mid lenght board
Today’s mid length board, is yesterday’s ‘‘mini board’’, though I’m not really sure WHAT is considered mid length these days! Short of a Gun, for 20 foot plus North Shore, (which at my age, I’ll never ride again) I’ve found a 7’ 10’’ board to be the best possible board,(for me) with a comfort range of 3 foot beach breaks to 15 foot at Sunset. The board did it all. I started riding that size in 1969, and had many boards either side of that size, but always come back to 7’ 10’'. Paddling, turning, speed on the wave, that size board does it all for me. I consider it to be the most versatile size surfboard. Properly designed, it IS the ‘‘one board quiver.’’

Bet it ain't shaped like coke bottle tho' ;-)
The peanut doesn’t phase me, although IMO “Y” did it better with the Swizzle.
What gets me is the penis tail with the girlie 9" tail width. These boards should only come in pink with the unicorn graphics.
Different strokes, though. So to speak.
You’ve got that right!
love mid-lengths, my favorite a 7’10 x 21.5" DT I recently moved down to my son’s house at the bay area coast because of it’s versatility. From Santa Cruz reefs to SF Ocean Beach, it’s a single board quiver, hella fun from shoulder high to DOH+.
And regarding Meyerhoffer…yea, the locals at Montara just love him…lol
his new slip in model which won best in show, looks quite similar to this board on the right at the gold coast surf musuem. once again everythings been done before
Bill, To my thinking mid length would be a board from 7’6" to around 8’ give or take a few inches either side.
Mid length is around 7 to 8 feet. Myhoffer long boards at 9 feet virtually delete the tale aria by 1 foot which should make it go like an 8 foot board. Or I have considered the rules in competition mal surfing are scrutinized and must meet criteria, this could be myhoffers way of baking the board as small as possible and still pass scrutinizing as a Malibu. Dose anyone know the size a board must be to be a competition Malibu?.
Looks like a giant shoe horn.
