"MicroPlane" Surform replacement blades

Anyone have any experience with these blades? I picked up a set but haven’t given them a shot yet. Good, bad, indifferent?

I’ve heard they work well but haven’t seen them locally, so haven’t tried them yet. Did you have to buy them mail order?

I use these quite a bit, there are several flavors of these things. I like the way they work. I use a few strokes of the normal surform to lay down the blank after the planer but quickly go to the Microplane and find that it works well to get me into my sand paper stage. I picked mine up at a store called Woodcraft.

I use it, just a little difficult trying to fit it into the routine. It makes nice clean cuts where a regular surform would tear the foam…its really good for the finer stuff or cleaning up your passes with the surform but in most cases you can do the same thing with a sanding block.

Ordered them directly from MicroPlane. Couldn’t find a distributor in San Diego area; also looked around online to no avail.

Also used the medium round microplane file to do the buttcrack on my fish. Veeeery nice! Cut the stringer and foam at about the same rate and only needed a little 150 sanding to clean up.

BTW, The foam dust created by the micro plane is like little ball bearings. It makes hanging on to the tool a real chore. You have to clean the tool constantly, or it will slip from your hand and gouge the blank.
