mid-summer surf trippin'

lookin’ to put together a surf trip for some time in July-August.

any suggestions?

not in the mood for more costa rica. maybe go out west and drive down the california coast into mexico? where can i expect to find good, consistent surf that time of year??

say san juanico baja sur

socal with thousands of others, baja with hundreds of others, norcal no surf dont go there: )

i use to spend summer in malibu canyon surfing malibu before it got light and as it got dark and after the morning crew left. set up a trip to socal and have a ton of flexibility so you can miss the crowds. do santa barbara, malibu, sanO and then go take a drive past rosarito mexico.

Forget Santa Barbara for surf in the summer. It’s blocked by the Channel Islands so there’s only a select few spots that break. Plenty of other activities and gorgeous women everywhere though! Of course, you already have those in Florida.

Soulstice, How much time did you say you have? If you have a couple of weeks, fly into San Diego, meet up with some other Swaylockers and head south of the border for a couple of weeks. When you get to Camalu take a right at the Tecate sign and keep going until you hit the ocean. Go south for beach breaks and north for various points and reefs. These area is loaded with known surf spots but they aren’t usually too crowded. (With the exception of Cuatro Casas.) There’s plenty of sweet longboard spots in the area.

You’re on the right coast, have you been to Eleuthera yet?

thanks for the suggestions…sounds like a lot of fun…any swaylockers up for a couple weeks south of the border?

a buddy of mine has a house on eleuthra that i more or less have free reign over…awesome place to go surf-trippin’ for a long weekend!

as far as time goes, i’ve got at least 1 month…but school starts up again some time in august.

My wife and I’ll be in Las Gaviotas July 13th-17th celebrating our 40th B-Days with family & friends. It’s only half an hour south of the border. Give me a call if you decide to head out here and we’ll see if we can set something up.

Soulstice,

There are many good summer spots up and down Alta and Baja California. You asked for consistent spots and that is the problem. It could be flat the whole time or you may get lucky with a steady stream of 210 New Zealanders with a chubasco swell thrown in. We’re way over due for a good summer. Mike

I’m also looking for a good summer surf trip; I was thinking more in the lines of the Basque coast, Bali, or Puerto Escondido. Can anyone give some advice, haven’t been to any of these places, I’m just looking for some challenging surf and to have one hell of a good time. I haven’t been able to leave the East Coast for over a .year becasue of school and business so I’m going all out, Tell me about you’re experiences of these places, or what you’ve heard from surf buddies. Thx, sorry if jacking you’re post Soulstice.

try Panama—there’s lots of surf and not much in the way of crowds----the area around santa catalina has gotten a bit taken over by the braizl nuts, but still lots of waves to the north of the country—pretty rustic , not girl friend or wife friendly unless she very much into roughing it…i’m going back this july for the second year.
