I am a lad from Newcastle in Oz and am headed over to Hawaii in two weeks (the 6th of Sep actually) to see a mate of mine and fellow Swaylockian. I have hopes of finding some swell, however we have had some good waves here the last two weekends and I have clean snapped both of my best boards (one on an epic standing over the falls wipeout). I have a spare spare but it is nowhere near my favourate board and though it will be coming with me, I would like to be able to pick up a used board in my size over there. To be honest the 3 boards I have now shaped just aren’t that good to ride. I realise that several of the Hawaiian Swaylockians have shops so I am wondering, does anyone have something in the range of a used 5’8, 17 1/2, 2 1/8 lying around? (though I realise some of the more senior members may view the size with derision, let me remind you, it is how you use it that counts. Besides, I am a particularly short, light individual). I say used because this is a super budget trip and I am a pennyless English teacher. Anyone who can help may be rewarded with payment for the board, a stuffed koala and some good (not Fosters) Australian beer. Thanks
Or Cippy’s store Island Classics on kapahulu by the zoo
in the country check out Country Surfboards in Laie for cheapies.
Also
WRV and SurfandSea have a good selection of used boards…
you might need one of John John Florence’s old boards
You’re way too small for my any of my stuff
If you’re real desperate you might beg someone here like CMP to borrow a board while you’re in town… I don’t remember seeing anything that small when I was over there though.
Yes it is, we speak Australian. So we need people to teach us english, or is it english teachers to teach us english. I’m really confused now, but, he did mention BEER so he must be OK…
Hey Miller, why don’t you just borrow one while you’re there, no problems with excess baggage on the way home.
the guy he is visiting is 6’8" tall , and when he stands up over you , well… he blocks out the sun .
You have to call him “Sir” , because he has a really NASTY name …
but , if ‘Sir’ is having a really good day , maybe [little 4’3"] Miller JO [no , it doesn’t stand for j… o… ?] might get taken pity on by Sir Goliath , and end up with a boogie board to play on , or something …
Thanks for the vote of confidence Chipper. Yes, let me confirm how bloody wonderful it is to be short. I have the same problem anywhere I go, most shapers don’t stock performance boards in my size, just fatter or boxier kids sticks. That said, kids size 16 wetties cost about half the price of the adult varieties. My only problem is when people in bars mistake me for a bar stool and sit on me (or try to throw me).

p.s. - I hope YOU didn’t stuff the koala , Johnny !!
Chipfish,
Thanks for the crack up. I almost had beer come out of my nose.
John,
If you can’t get a board shaped for you then I’ll check Surfa Haus for a used grom board on consignment (as a last resort). You might not even need to have a good board because September is fickle at best.
