I have a custom order for a 6 6 x 22 mini longboard, the board is for a beginner to intermediate . Usually I don’t do these kinds of boards.
Im planning on doing mild convex belly for stability and wave catching ability, high performance is not really an issue here, stability more so so I’m not planning in putting in double concaves etc.
My main question is how much rocker to put in.
Does 4 1/2 inches at the nose and 2 inches at the tail sound ok to you guys - with continous rocker?
I use 4.25n x 2.75 on a similar shape that is 7’0, so I think your original idea seems pretty good. I would think 5 inches would be a bit much. Wide nose boards really push water with too much entry rocker. This has been my experience, and I’ve been experimenting with these shapes for years.

Just so happens I am on a the same path as you.
6’-6" ? don’t know if this is any help, eh maybe add 6" !
Got another 7-4 SP with a little more tail rocker waiting.
PM me if you want more info.
Aloha!
Here is a post from a few weeks back.
Down in the dungeon again.
Really planned to speculate on summer boards.
The “Fun board” was what I was thinking.
Went thru US blanks catalog got something close.
Talked to Steve (Huerta FGH Ventura) about this and showed him my blank spec.
(Really dreading the CNC blank I selected).
Steve grabs a blank and hands it to me really fresh, THICK, nice enough rocker.
BTW US Blanks has gone to custom rocker!
I would rather be someone’s shot of whiskey, than everyone’s cup of tea.
I live near San Diego. WNC will cut a blank for you with whatever rocker you want. There’s Arttic and Millinum and US Blanks all close by. (spelling?). You want to build a 6’6"…cool …I do lots of eggy fishy boards…I really like the US Blanks 6-10A…that is what I would use for your project…but the 6-8RP fits too…
and for Matt…I like tail kick for my personal boards… Ray
Dcasey, I took your info onboard, and 4 1/4 was tthe natural tail rocker for the board, around 2 inches tail rocker. I did the rocker on the fly and kept it inline with what the blank was intended for, it turned out nice and looks right, I think 5 inches nose rocker might have looked a bit extreme, and it would probably push water.
It was good to have some advice so I could shape the rocker with confidence, nothing worse than having to shape a board without a clear vision of what you intend it to be.
Have ridden several mini HPLB’s, current favorite an 8’0. Lesson learned, works better to combine lower nose rocker with generous tail rocker.
The lower nose rocker promotes paddling and down the line forward trum glide, the tail rocker loosens up the board so you can ‘short board’ your turns off the bottom and top. And on steep drops, the tail rocker lifts the nose as soon as you weight it on the jump up.
HIgher nose rocker and less tail rocker = a board that neither glides or turns exceptionally well.
am currently also enjoying the heck out of an 8’6 HPLB, previously a 2 + 1, retro-fitted with FCS plugs so I could ride it as a quad. Running 4.5 fronts, 4 rears, added a nubster and suddenly a fun board became a hella fun board. Absolutely flies own the line, speed pump it like a big shortboard, and comes off the top and bottom with a more agressive angle of attack with the nubster in.
