I've made one 6' mini simmons with the nose belly running about 30" and fading to flat in the middle. Just wondering what others are doing for belly length as I'm about to start my next mini. The next is going to be a 5'9" with a thinner tail.
hi bandito, I replied to you in another thread too,
This is the image to which i was referring - I think this is an early Baugess mini sim, and this photo goes some way to explain what I was trying to say that the belly is a feature of the rails not a sort of deck-crown idea applied to the bottom,
here the bottom of the board is fundamentally flat, but the rails are ‘tucked under’ or a shallow bottom rail band extends underneath the bottom of the rail towards the stringer - the belly doesnt begin at the stringer as in a displacement hull,
It’s my opinion it’s the Simmons style rails that give the lift effect - though more recent desigsn from the Swift movement seem to have a more blended bottom contour, more in the style of a hull - make of that what you will,
