Greetings to everyone on the forum! I have been lurking around spounging up information for some time now, and I have decided to officially join to get some input from everyone here. I am in the process of building my first surfbord, which I have decided should be a mini simmons, and have had a difficult time creating an outline that I like. I finally created this and wanted to get some incite on the shape of the board. What could I improve? Width in general, deck shape, rocker?
As far as concaves go I was planning to have a belly through the nose followed by a single concave and V concave through the end of the tail.
I will be surfing this at Upper Trestles so I want something that has ludicrous speed but can make some later drops. Manouverablility is always a plus!
I made one similar dimensions but a little shorter. With twin keels. And a couple more litre volume and a very similar rocker and s-deck. But convex into single and double concave vee out the back. Great small wave board. Lots of fun in weak knee to chest high. But after that and on steep drops it’s a real handful.
Go to Bashams in San Clemente or Surf Supply in O’side. Start with a big fish blank. This type of board is not intended for overhead surf. Tons of information out there for this type of surfboard. Spend some time searching. And just like the Fish. It doesn’t work for everyone…and it works best if you stay true to the original design. You are building your first surfboard. Learn to shape first. Re-invent the wheel later. Search Richard Kinvin (spelling?), RK, Simmons, Joe Bauguess and Hydrodynamica…
I did not look at your deminsions or numbers. My friend owns a real Mini shaped by Joe Bauguess. More complex than you may think.
