…so far , for me , [in waist to , occassionally , chest high waves ] , on my 9’4 , it’s been 3" deep, 2 1/2" base sideys , with a 4" deep , 3 3/4 base back [box] fin …but i may still be able to go smaller , methinks

I’ve gone out finless on my shorties before (for no particular reason other than to see if I could).

Maybe no-fins shouldn’t count.

“I’ve gone out finless before…”

don’t let this get out guys but in my haste to hit the surf once, yes once and only once exactly, I spaced the fin back in the car park,

had me boardies on though.

I did a 3 1/4 on a 9’3 once and only once!

"I did a 3 1/4 on a 9’3 once and only once! "

…was that as a SINGLE fin , mate ?

yeah single in the box, It was a snapped fin my friend refoiled and wanted me to give er a go.

side to side she went.

Did a ‘‘shortboard’’ in 1971 with seven (7) mini fins, with a 2 1/2 inch depth, and a 2 inch base. As I recall, the ‘‘shortboard’’ was 7’, or 7’ 2’'. Was very loose by the then standards, would probably be considered ‘‘normal’’ today.

thanks for the feedback , guys !

keep it coming …

anyone ELSE experimenting with smaller fins at the moment ?

cheers

ben

Ben i been using your orange one tabbers on my supercharged twin keel. Dont know if its them, or just that i’ve been surfing it consistently for the last 3 or 4 months, but i feel im surfing better. I’ll be leaving them in for sure, thanks mate!!

All last winter I was riding that hemp longboard with a 5 1/2" single fin, all the way forward in the box. Worked great, tail didn’t spin out once, and very little drag. It was also a good kelp setup. I seem to have lost the fin in the shuffle, however. It’s probably somewhere in the trunk of my car.
