Missing my tail

A large corner (3in L x 4 in W) of my 9’6" was crunched and sheared off the tail. I think the damage is too large restore it back to its original shape as it broke the stringer too, so I am considering chopping it off square and shortening the board by 4". Besides making it square and smoothing the edges are there any other special steps I need before I put the resin on it? I am sure shortening the board will affect the ride but I look at it as a chance to have a new board with a different tail design. It might be fun. Any thoughts would help.

A longboard’s tail is usually a very sensitive part and chopping 4" out of it doesn’t sound a very good idea to me as you’ll probably be taking out an important part of the rocker. Any ding can be fixed, even if it involves taking away the damaged part and replacing it. if you don’t feel like doing it yourself, any good ding repair shop will do it.

I agree with Balsa…But…

I make a litle cash on the side fixing surfboards…you want to chop off the tail?..I’ll chop off the tail…You want to replace the smashed tail/stringer with new stuff I can do that too…

Four inches off of the tail…guess we have to move the fins…Do you want glass ons or boxes?

Guess you gotta move the widepoint, too.

House Salad or Soup with that?

Fill in with some foam and a nice tailblock. Never mind the stringer, it didn’t do much good anyway, now did it?

Håvard

Think about the options before doing something drastic… with 9 odd feet of foam left you could easily reconfigure/salvage it into something that isn’t just a 9’6’’ with a hacked-off tail.
Tailblock suggestion sounds like a good start. Post a picture if you can… can get some ideas from others.
