Hello everyone. Ever since we got this new 5’-10"RP fish blank in, I have been itching to start a new project. After over thinking it for many days here at the shop I came to a simple answer. I am going to attempt a modern fish design. Measurements are going to be 5’-6" x 20" x 2 1/2". The width of the tail and nose are still in question, but the plan is to pull them both in. Bottom contours are going to take a little more thought (any ideas feel free to let me know) but need to promote performance. Here is what I am starting with.http://www.foamez.com/us-blanks-510rp-fish-blank-p-718.html
This might be a good start, this is 5’6 x 20 (~15in nose, ~16 tail)
Hey Biz,
Looks like my,
1997-03 Predator Series boards(just like it)
…see board 200 in the board archives.

Nice Herb!
Yeah, i have a handful of outlines a la “modern” fish and that one always catches my eye.
Love the type of shape like above. I made a few different sizes of the following link…http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=29308;…lmk if you would want the .brd file
i also could convert my photo to a real size print out or PDFs and email to you if your interested. Let me know. If you want to make any dim tweaks first too, let me know. I could set it up spin template or normal.
Thanks, that’s awesome.I like the outline, and dimensions the way you have them there.
Biz, what software are you using to produce spin templates? thx
Hey Greg,
I do all my outline/templates in Illustrator only because i have it and use it on a regular basis anyway so i’m comfortable with the program. So what i do is have a bunch of outlines which i can scale up to real size and manipulate however.
So i’ll scale up my outline (half the board) to it’s actual size
Then i’ll create a vertical line exactly half the height of the outline, then align both to bottom, scoot the vertical line as close as i can to the edges of my outline and cut the curve at those points using the scissors tool.
This essentially cuts my template outline exactly in half. Then i just reflect one of the halves and join it to the other.
for a fish spin template, i’ll ignore the swallowtail and just straighten out the template, then just draw in the swallow after you’ve drawn the outline on the blank.
for these illustrations i did not scale the outline up first, but i recommend doing it, it makes the cuts you make more accurate if you’re dealing with the life size outline…
Hope that makes sense and is useful for the fortunate few who have access to Illustrator.
