Great post Ben.

I bought the MP biography and was surprised that we were born on the same day of the month. After reading it I gave it to Bernie, but I don’t know if he’s read it.

I always loved the intense style of MPs surfing.

I hope all is well with you, and keep making us jealous with photos of the surf.

Aloha, Sharky

cheers mate

  glad you enjoyed it

maybe you could make bernie one [moonrocket] for a christmas present , to show him what he missed out on , if he didn't read the book , perhaps ?

the 'busting down the door' book [rabbit's] is ALSO a good read , by the way ...

[on a different note ...bonus random dog photo]....

this is a design that has always been very interesting to me, especially due to the MP factor, there was only ever 6 originals shaped apparently and one is at the Surf Museum at Currumbin, great to see...I did this one thinking it would be mine but it ended up being a prize for the retro section of the Malfunction comp a few years ago...wish I kept it for meee...anyway, have plans to do another with a fin I have that my deceased father had made and I have kept it for 35 years and been waiting for the right board to glass it onto and I think a fangtail would be cool...I also saw MP about 2 weeks ago.....stoked....

......wow, great stuff !!

can you  please post shots of the finished board and fin here when done eh ?

  thanks mr. pridmore !!

[ by the way , the "hicksy moonrocket" thread ...

  cheers !

no worries to post pic of fin but board might not get shaped for a while, I'd like to do it asap but dollars and time is always an issue, I could shape myself a new board everyday but I have to tone my enthusiasm down when it comes to boards for myself, actually sold a few of my quiver recently but I do have plans for several newies and the Fangtail is one of them...so I'll post when the times arrives....would be interested to know if many others have done one ?....I had it in my shop for a few months and so many people did not know of the designs history and were blown away by its lethal look.....

would be interested to know if many others have done one ?...."

  yep , see above link

his [hicksy's ended up a lethal weapon to my head , as you will see by the head injury photo he posted on one of the pages of that thread...

    cheers

i look forward to seeing a photo of the ? 40 yo ?  fin ...is it multi-coloured foils , by any chance  ? [Colin Earle here has one from that era that is a BEAUTY !!]

Nah, its not coloured but its awesome ( to me anyway ), I was given a small box of Dads belongings when he died, few bits and pieces and a fin , which I knew nothing about at 2 yrs of age but as I got into surfing and boards, I knew I'd use it one day, 've been reluctant to use it coz dont wanna lose it but now is the time, its goin on a board in the next few months, I have a break which I wanna design a board for and the fin will go on this board, possibly a fangtail, but I do keep changing my mind...anyway, I think the template for all those years ago is pretty good....reckon there could be some good energy from this one....

the curve from the back of this fin has been used hundreds of times when shaping boards ....

Nice fin mark, would work very well IMHO. Keep us updated about it. Nice histroy too.

from the very early days of legropes ...i've had a coupla fins over the years with holes in them for the legrope to pass through . a great idea for drag inducement and fin slices through said leggie i found . mind you , the surgical tube leggies with cord / rope through the middle took a bit more to chop through than today's spaghetti thin 'comp cords' ...

cheers for posting that shot of the fin , mr. priddy man !

    ben

p.s. - which part of the board do you use the fin's trailing edge curve on , the tail ? pod ?

how old is M.P.  NOW  , by the way ?

if he was 44 in this article ......[that will help me date which year the two floridians were world champs ? / won the ASL peer awards]

  cheers !

  ben

I'll have to check to see what date he was born, I have his book somewhere but my son has been reading it.....I reckon it was about 92 Kelly won his first title, if that helps....

here's another pic I found of the Fangtail ( or moonrocket or Xmas tree, they had several nicknames, model named ahead of its time , like alot of stuff MP did ).....[IMG]http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp114/pridmore73/DSCN0734.jpg[/IMG]

thanks !!

now i've just got research what year[s] lisa anderson won hers
