more fish questions

Hey

Before you go tell me to go look through the archives, i have but i havn’t really been given a true answer to my question. I was wanting to know what are all the dimensions to a Ci Fish.

I am 5’4 and 55kg (11o metric pounds i think) and are wondering what dimensions would be good for my size. Was thinking like 5’3 or 5’4. Im asking you because you guys are the most experienced guys with fish i know.

Cheers

Why would you want a Ci Fish?

I guess for a fast small wave board. Still high performance. Always have small

surf around and need a board to rip it up on.

the smallest CI fish ive seen here in santa barbara (at the CI shop) on the racks is a 5’6"…im sure you could order a smaller one though,

Cheater,

I don’t know how much a CI cost. But, I bet you can build 3 fishes yourself with different dimensions for the cost of one CI. If I can do it, so can anyone. Mike

CI Fish are currently $680. Personally, I feel they are a shortboard design on a fish. Go look at one and you’ll see what I mean. On the same note, I happen to love retro fish with nice nose thickness and full rails, but with a speed shape and glass-on keels…sort of like Brom’s masterpieces…but hey, that’s just my opinion.

Yea i found out that they are freaking expensive, expesially when you live in New Zealand and it would have to be shipped over here, damn. Was just wanting to know what dimensions would suit for a 5’4 or so fish. Any personal preferences welcome just finding out what you dig. More than likely will eventually shape my own board (never have but real keen to learn). Aswell as getting one of the local shapers here to do me a nice fish that skates around.

Thanks guys

According to the Channel Islands website it sounds like a super nice board. The video of the CIfish looks awsome robbo’s carve is amazing even though its just standard cutty it looks super smooth and skatey, that movie makes we want the board so much.

Hi Cheater,

Are you anywhere near Gisborne? The best small wave board I ever owned was shaped by Ralph Blake from New wave. Might be worth checking his boards out.

Hi Cheater.

Didn’t know you were posting from NZ. My advice is make your own. If not, support your local board builders. Local econmies whenever possible. A CI will not be a better board than you can get from your local pro shaper. Any good shaper can shape a great fish. Mike

Ain’t that the truth?!?!?!? If I can make one fly, just think what someone who really knows what they’re doing can create! If you’re not interested in making one yourself, PLEASE, PLEASE, support your local shaper. They probably need your business a hell of alot more than CI does.

I was pretty much sure i was gona either shape my first board or get one from the local shapers round here.

I just thought about indulging into the world of the fish and asking about the dimensions and that kinda thing. Always like to learn ahow lot of things before i try. Learnt a lot from these sites.

I am from Auckland, not the best place to be in NZ but not the worst. I did talk to Ralph Blake about the CiFish and his fish’s.

I got a 5’10" retro styled fish off Ralph a couple of months ago and it exceeded my performance expectations. He delivered it on time and gave good advice on size. Went for nose 16.25, middle 21.5, tail 16 and 2.5 thick. I’m 5’9", 70kg, surf once a week on average, and have mostly ridden 9’+ boards the last ten years or so, only getting on a shortbaord every few months. Had no trouble adjusting - catches waves much better than my 6’6" thruster. I’ve only been on the longboard once in about 15 surfs. Considered a mass produced hybrid type fish, but glad I went for a custom retro.

sounds really good. Have beenhearing a lot of good things about Ralphs fish so i might just try one out. U ogt any pictures of your board ???

Cheers

No photos sorry

Just an FYI…Yes, 55kg would be 110 metric pounds since a metric pound is 500grams but no one really uses metric pounds. The pounds (lbs.) that people use when refering to their body weight are “international pounds” and it’s 453 grams to a pound.

So you can tell Americans you weight 120 lbs, not 110. (You can tell the Brits you weigh 8.5 stones, or maybe they say 8 stone 7.)

Dont use stone of punds or anything else. Just Kg and grams. ANd metres and centimetres and millimetres.

Tries to convert it using a online converter but obviously chose the wrong one.

Well, if you’re going to post to a largely American forum about board size recommendations, then you’re going to need to give your weight in pounds. So, “you’re welcome” for thanking me for providing you with the correct info so you don’t shape a board for a guy 10 pounds lighter than you are.

thanks Slim, didn’t mean any disrespect

Me too, man. Sorry for talking shit!
