tons in the archives… look at things like vac/vacuum bag, pump…

if you want to buy: http://www.acp-composites.com/

if you want to make: http://joewoodworker.com/veneering/welcome.htm

a year or two there were some threads on water pipe/suction based vacuum systems. really cheap and easy. Should pull plenty of vac to apply skins.

Search ebay…

If you look for “Vacuum pumps” you’ll find plenty of pumps that will work, and plenty of other craftsmen who have already found them and bid upon them…

If you search for “aspirator pump”, you can sometimes find some medical equipment that nobody thought to list as a vacuum pump. I got my WWII-era olive-drab oil vane aspirator pump for $30, and have pulled countless vacuums on 6 boards with no problem at all… Well, except for that one blank I crushed a bit.

Try these item numbers on ebay…

7574442410

This is the same one I have in different packaging: 7573800366 Good stuff!!

no bids on either one.

If you keep looking, you’ll find something that will do the trick. I tended to gravitate more towards the units where you can actually see the motor assembly, instead of the little suitcases with knobs and dials… But that might just be a matter of personal bias.

if you have a compressor you can buy a converter to change it to a vacuum pump.

I just bought a bunch the adaptor and the whole kick incluing the switch to give away to board making friends I hope to convert to baggers…

now was that paper or plastic?

Or high density vinyl (from the fabric store) or 3mm drop cloth plastic…

get

Get good high volume nipple and nipple bag seals and bag attachements like those shown by Benny1, Silly, MarkyW and Bert…

If you’r lucky you find someone that can get you a pump from surplus military suppliers check…Hospital supplies like what Shwuz did are cool as are old refrig pumps…

Again a vac adaptor is the simplest if you have a big compressor…

I recommend getting the pump from joewoodworkers.

I concur with Shwuz… I got most of my vacuum pumps on eBay

Ken

hey there

i got a 40 year old belt driven fridge compressor for 30$ nz

and it worked fine

i got a guage and pressure switch from and irrigation type supplier for about $150nz all up

it can be really cheap.just an old standard domestic fridge pump will do the trick as well .

i made my bag as instructed on joe woodworker including the clamps cost me about $100nz

i have made 6 boards in the bag and im sure it could do 40 or 50 or more

its made out of thick clear pvc of the type they use for an outdoor annex or such

it is glued at the seams with plumbers glue and reinforced with tape

its a really strong bag

the fitting is a water tank fitting which is glued and taped

i use shade cloth as a breather

theres a one way valve and some hose clamps

my pump will run for 30 secs every 5 or so minutes

the only thing is, i wish i made the bag a bit longer so i could do a 9 footer
