Interesting idea about the painting… Bright white? Flat gray?
In the automotive world they tend to use a neutral kind of silver to run “clinics” with. In these “clinics” a cross section of different people are asked to evaluate the the form of competitors cars as well as a number of proposals/alternatives of a new model - all in the one colour of course.
Well - Considering some other current threads, I’d say white, nice, bright, and shiny, would be the obvious choice for a surf board… Ha!
Most people will never get the chance to see or hold one, let alone surf one. But Mike Diffenderfer’s sunset guns were things of beauty.

Really super-clean hi-perf shorties ala Mike Daniel, Jim Phillips’ clean LBs are sublime, pure Sunset shapes ala Thrailkill et al, so so many of Greg Griffin’s boards… I’m leaning away from wings on the beauty stuff, but to each his own. I really like thirdshade’s shapes on the homepage recently, one being an absolutely bitchin’ Thrailkill-inspired shape and another one being a beauty of a Sunset-looking thing. (that logo kicks ass too, if you ask me) I really like his winged shapes there too but they don’t make me sigh as much as covet.

At the moment for me it’s all about the boards Mandala and Point Concept are making.

Here’s one with original curves designed for the big days on the points. Chambered balsa Speed Foil 9’ 6".
This one just skinned and outlined for a customer yesterday. 4 hours work lofting lines and planning.
