I have been building boards in San Diego and on the Big Island of Hawaii for a few years now out of little shacks that I built. I am moving over to Maui in a month and was wondering if anyone knows of any good glassing factories where I can rent out a room to shape in. I want to work more closely with professionals and further fine tune my board building skills. Do you know how much it costs to rent a room in a glassing factory? Are there any on the west side especially? I think I heard of some on the east side, but I do not know much. Any info that I can receive would be a huge help. Mahalo.

Check out Moonlight Glassing (?) in the old Haiku Cannery, I know they have at least a couple shaping rooms that they rent or maybe even free if you leave your boards for them to glass. Of course they are on the opposite side of the island than you are looking for but might be able to put in touch with someone on the west side. Oh yeah, you can also get your blanks from them right there, they have a good stock of Clark blanks. They actually were just a blank shop up until about a year or two ago, supplying the handful of shapers that have their rooms and shops scattered throughout the cannery. Two possibles. Gott Fiberglass or Everclear Glass. Both in the Cannery. When in doubt, cruise into the Rocking Chair Ding Repair in the Cannery and ask the ever wise Gramps for advice.
