I’m thinking it would really suit a Bonzer set up but then I thought what if I could add a few other options??? What are your thoughts on adding extra FCS plugs so I could explore 2 + 1, Bonzer 3 and Quad set ups?
It will be a little messy but I figured if I could test a few different options board 3 could be the set up I like the best based on the same template?
I’m also interested in anyone’s thoughts on Bonzer 3 toe in. Any help anyone can offer would be amazing.
Cheers
Nice outline! I’ve never made a bonzer so not much help but I did a board with a similar outline a few months ago - 6’6 channel twin fin. Have been thinking of scaling it up in the future for single fin and 2+1 options. Good luck!
Wow that is beautiful! If I can achieve a finish 1/4 as good as that I’ll be a happy camper!
Am I crazy with my multi fin set up plan. I know it will add weight, drag etc but it could be a great test horse to refine ideas on?
Thanks, I appreciate it! I’m pretty new myself - 30 or so boards in so I’d be over my skis to give you too much technical advise on having all those different options. You would learn a lot on one board that’s for sure! I just don’t know if you would be able to position everything to get the ideal placement for each fin option. I could be wrong. Hopefully one of these seasoned guys on here can shed more light on that. Share photos when you’re done!
I’m not sure - I probably should know haha. This was my second time attempting channels and the first time they turned out to be to shallow after I finished glassing in my opinion - so I just eye balled it and went a little deeper second time around. Here’s some better photos:
I’ll definitely get photo’s up as I go. It could/will be months before I start most likely. I’ll need to get some more fin boxes or plugs etc! I don’t have a dedicated shaping bay but have come up with a temporary structure that hopefully will work?
As far as the fin options go, having done some more research I’ve seen similar examples so I think that’s the way I’ll go. I’ve referenced the Green light chart for fin placement and it works within those parameters so hopefully it will be a success?
There is a guy on YouTube that set up a temporary “bay” that looks pretty sick, and simple. Bendheim Boards - I’m sure you’ve seen his videos if you’ve done research online. Yea man go for gold! So you would be doing something similar to the first photo, with an added center box?
Hey Paul,
Those channels are beautiful! Glad I’m not glassing them though hahaha! Yes I’ve checked out the Bendheim channel, that was what sparked the “pop up” idea tbh. Yes my layout will be similar to the concept of the 6 shooter with a centre fin box just not with all the fins at once!!! I intend to run as a Bonzer 3 and 2 + 1 mainly but it will be good to have a quad option too (the first board I shaped was a quad and I liked it).
