"growing older is inevitable , growing up is optional"
Yes, I was born in 1972 but am still 14 years old… I think I found the fountain of youth - funny thing is it’s near all of us, just out past where the waves break
I just turned 55. They say age is all in your head. Tell that to my shoulders, knees, hips, and back. The only thing that’s ok is my head. Now, who are you again?
aw, groovy, man…i thought your b-day was the day after mine, but thanks to the international date line (not a hook-up service), we have the same birthday. it’s only Jan. 2 in the states right now, but hey…Happy Birthdays to us!
roll in that new year (both 46 and 2007) by riding a few for all of us- a little odd you’re riding a finless craft for your b-day, but I guess that array you’ve made can wait. Have a good one mate!
Happy B-day, Ben and Soulstice. Hope you scored some waves. What’s the name of that book? Growing Old Isn’t For Sissys. Something like that. Ditto LeeV’s sentiments. I refuse to give up my short boards. Not in 2007 anyway. I’ll be 49 in May. My favorite quote from an old hard drinking, Camel unfiltered smokin, Navy Seal is, “Lifes a bitch. But, I f…ing love it!” Mike

thanks for the wishes every one
happy birthday Lee , and soulstice !
i refuse to give up my short boards , but as the years go on ,
Happy b’day to you, so how many years in the water do’es that make it? I’m the same age as you and had my first surf at 7, all be it on a piece of plywood with the end flipped up, (old school bodyboard). First stood on a surfcraft at 10/11, a hollow wood surf ski I used at my local SLSC. The older clubbies always told me off for that, (if they caught me doing it), telling me it was meant for sitting on, what did they they know. Got my own board at 13, a wetsuit at 14 and surfed all the time from then on. I never imagined then that I’d still be surfing now as it was very rare to see any surfers over the age of 25 back then, people thought it was a youth sport only. Well what a load of bollocks that turned out to be. Had a great surf yesterday, nice fast sucky overhead waves, on a 6’1" thruster, 20 guys on the peak and I still had more than my share of set waves. Experience counts for a lot. Keep on keeping on.
to be honest, sometimes i feel a little old, but i’m not about to give up shortboards, or longboards for that matter. i was lucky enough to get a couple of surfs in today, & rode my 5’5" quad fish, my 9’6" signature model foam tom wegener log, & my mate’s 16’ tom wegener paulownia hws.
i reckon life’s too short to not explore your quiver. it’s all good.
Cheers to another healthy, happy and safe new year. May you have many long glassy rides and find that perfect shape; whether it be a board, fin or woman.
Hey ben happy b’day mate!!. Im 26, born in 80. Im lucky at the moment, al the men on my dads side have quite pronounced, ahem, beer bellies. I have a few cousins my age, who have started to get the belly, but i’ve actually lost a bit of weight since surfing. Dont have a 6 pack though.
Cheers mate. and hope you get some good waves. Maybe isobel wil give you a nice b’day pressie!!
