My first board

4’10 twin fin kneeboard for my 10 year old sister (maybe standup if she gets good enough before she outgrows it)

Its definately much easier for her to paddle herself than my boards. Cant really see the bottom in any of the pictures, but it came out nice in a banded black and pink thanks to Austin’s mexican blanket video’s. Its 1# Home depot EPS with laminated in rocker, glassed with 6x6x8 top and 6x8 bottom, so it should be around for a while (the footprints are adhesive backed kevlar lams (sail repair tape)). Fins are solid mahogany glassed with two layers of 6 oz. (My first vaccum bagging job), also features a glass leash loop. Thanks to all of you out there who helped answer my questions, I’m now ready to try shaping my own come summer when I get the time. She still doesn’t have quite enough paddling power to get on most of the small waves we go out in, and she isn’t quite tall enough to push off the bottom, I’ve been thinking about getting her a pair of the webbed water resistance gloves, since I know she would rather take off herself than have me push her. Has anyone tried those?

And a picture of the fins, thanks to chipfish for the template.

good work! you should give it ago.

that’s a look of pure stoke on her face! good job LS!

Swim fins might be a better choice than webbed gloves, if she’s kneeboarding anyway…

PS what do you mean “footprints?”

oh mate , that’s great !!

I’m stoked for her , and you !!

And that mahogany for the fins looks lovely !

I’m stoked to see people using those templates …I’d love to know how they go [maybe as Josh said , YOU could try the board out ??]…just depends how big you are , I guess ? [how old are you Jeff, by the way?]

curiousity got the better of me , with the 4’11 fish that I made Ross’s young son a few years back . Although a sinker / nightmare for me to paddle , I DID manage to catch a couple of waves on it . Can anyone say "tight turning radius " ??? heheh …it was fun , though !

Thanks, I’m 20, and weigh about 175, so I’ll have to wait for some steeper surf if I want to use her board (if she’ll even let me). As far as the footprints, you can see the inlay in the deck, sort of like the stereotypical dance lesson steps, under the wax. The best part if found abpout having a fairly small board for her is that she can paddle it out and duck dive it in chest high (for her) surf, and allthough it is more unstable than a longer board would be for learning on, just enabling her to get out on her own will give her a lot more time on the water.

if we get some bigger surf I’ll give it a whirl and give you feedback on the template, though I’ve never surfed a twin fin before, so don’t have much reference. Thanks,

Jeff
