So first off I would like to thank everyone here on Swaylocks for all the
help and support and just for all the great info that is stored on here with
out it my first board would never have been made. I would also like to throw
out a Big Thanks to Greenlight for kit i ended up getting. And last but not
least i would like to say a Big Big thanks to David Girvin for all the help he
gave me I hope I didn’t annoy you too much with all my questions. I learned so
much from this experience and all in all i think i went pretty well there were
a few little things that i would defiantly try not to mess up for the next
board but I’ll get into those later.
And so no to the build
I bought an EPS foam blank kit from Green light and glued up the stringer and the blank
i then made up my template using some cardboard
Cutting it out was scared to cut close so i was way outside the line
Starting to shape the rails
Taking a little bit of a break for my Bros little one
Back at it finished shaping its looking pretty good i think didn’t mess up too much here.
the rails probably could have been a bit better but thats all part of learning
Decided that i was going to use the air brush for the first time this build has many first for me.
Note to self Airbrush stright up and down not from the side blows up the tape
Didn’t turn out half bad
First coat
Some how lost the lap pictures. I ended up not sanding them down enough so I had to more sanding on this stage than i really should have.
Got all set up to do the probox fin boxed This one turned out perfect was very pleased with that
This one not so fucking much hand slipped a little think i got a little cocky after the perfect first one nothing that couldn’t be fixed though.
Glassed in the boxes and had a little bit of an issue. turns out i didn’t sticky the template down very well and it leaked out the back and when i tried to take it off ended up cracking a chunk of glass off. Now thats a piss off already had to do a repair before i even finished the board
If anyone was following my leash plug thread a few days ago you might have seen this one. Lost the leash plug that greenlight gave me no clue where it went so i had to make my own, I took the end cap of a PVC pipe and placed a bar in it also added some channels in the sides and bottom to try and get the resin to lock with it. All that work was almost for not whe the drill bit i was using decided it wanted to make an extra large hole so ended up having to fill it with lots of resin was pretty concerned that it was going to get way to hot when i put it in so i put some ice on the top and bottom of the board and it worked out great.
Time to try and get that epoxy to shine. My arm hurts so bad its probably been about 8 hours worth of sanding
8 hours and I got a bit of a finish reflex a little bit YA!!
so there it is 5’10 19 2 1/4 Nose rocker 3 1/2 and tail rocker 1 1/2 single into double
I was just looking at this picture and it looks like my rail on the top isn’t smooth but in person it looks fine
Have to wait about a month or so before i get to try it out though
So I want to thank all of you guys here again and the next one will deffinatly be better. I learned a TON of stuff this one and im sure ill learn lots more
Chipfins was that enough pictures? i know you cant get enough of them!
