This is a pic of my friend, Michael, who just had his shoulder operated on two days ago. I’ve been working on a fish shape for him and this is what we’ve come up with. Thanks to Tom Sterne, Manuel Caro, Steve Brom, Herb Spitzer, Rich (Halcyon), Skip Frye, Steve Lis, Rick Ambrose, Ramon (may he rest in peace) and his beautiful fish (#351), Gary Niblock and everybody else for inspiration and taking the time to answer all my questions. Michael has given the go ahead to glass and I hope to have it ready by the time his shoulder is better so he can take it out. It will have a quad set up with bigger single foiled fins in front and smaller symmetrically foiled fins trailing. I’m on the fence between glassing quick and easy (clear) or going nuts with a pigmented resin abstract.
what is it 5ft 10 maybe?really nice!!Glass it!!!then go skating!!![smile]
John, that fish looks great!!! I finished one for my self a couple weeks back (a quad also, but with Herbs Q4 set up(thanks a ton Herb, you Da MAN!!). I went for it with a resin swirl on both sides and think you should go for it too. A fish just begs for some rowdy color work. It may be a pain in the butt, but worth it. Cant wait to see your finished product, your friend is stoked I’m sure!
nice john! can’t wait to see it with the canard quad set-up! http://www.mandalacustomshapes.com
nice board…with the giant weed plant behind u i see why your eyes are closed!
go nuts with the pigment!! if u didnt people wouldnt even relize it was a fish. either give it a dark opaque feel, or give it a crazy acid splash. i just started shaping one today, and i plan on giving the little 5’6" a crazy glassjob. im thinking of colors that would go well at the moment. dk
Hi John, ya gonna cut the grass before you smoke the fish? Looks pretty good!!!
John: What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Nice Fish 'bro, always greener on the other side of the fence. I cast my vote for the rowdy color job, but go for it in R/R Epoxy. Tom S.
Uhh… that’s BAMBOO guys! Michael is living the clean life as far as I know. If not, I’m telling his dad. No power plane was used shaping this one - all hand tools except on stringer in split tail where a Dremel tool with a cut off blade did the trick. We roughed out a template on masonite and eyeballed it to size with a razor plane. May go with a carbon deck and resin splash bottom/rails.
