My First Three Boards

Posted this this morning of my first three boards on the left is my first dubbed the "training bra" every new shaper has to put one on! put n e of the pro box fins in the wrong way then it just went downhill with melting foam in the box through to the deck etc... but almost fixed. The fish in the middle is a Lis Fish template that is sooooo fun and the cleanist of the three my latest was a second shot at the first board and finally redemption its for a friend and used tempara paint on the whole deck which has its problems of its own. I will be doing resin tints from now on to much goes wrong when grinding down laps and what not. So here they are enjoy thanls to all on Sways for the inspiration. I'm about to start the 4th for a trip to Popoyo, Nicaragua in March so I'll post some more! Feel free to let the comments fly thats why I'm posting!

Hey, at least you gave it a shot.  Nice work! Middle board does look fun.

By the way I am heading down to Nica next weekend, first time.  Going to a place called Miramar.

Thanks Yaar43 let me know how your trip goes it will be my first there as well!

If you burned a hole in the foam with your finbox install I’m guessing you’re using EPS and glassing with epoxy.  If so, trying to get a clean resin tint will be tough.

I used eps for the first board and yes using epoxy resin. I should mention that I used fast hardner in the box with a piece of foam shaped to the hole size after removing the improper install with minimal room in the repaired box and it still burned through so I switched to slow hardner. I kick myself for that but lesson learned! I should mention though that removing that pro-box fin box took some really good muscle and I mean real good even after cutting around with a dremel. I am not a bit concerned about those boxes ever coming out after that little expierence. I have been using green tinted resin around my fin boxes with good results but nothing on a large scale yet. The other two boards are poly foam the fish is RR expoxy and the other is Surf Source epoxy, gotta say the RR is way better IMHO. It just flowed better for some reason the SS epoxy felt very viscous even after a few seconds in the microwave.

Thanks Huckleberry! Not sure what happened.
