ok, long story short, at bowls the other day and some KOOK runs me over by snaking me and runs into my board, luckily there’s only one problem with it and not multiple but its a pretty big problem. My fish’s fins, glassed on, well the glass basically is not glass anymore, put it that way. how can i fix it with out destroying the other part of the glass. it’s only jacked on the bottom part of the fin. I have pics to post up, so maybe u guys can take a gander at it. i just got this board from Manny bout a month and half ago…i can’t believe it. but kudos to manny’s glasser for doing a fine glass job, cuz it was a longboarder who hit me and i’m surprise it didn’t do any damage to the other parts of the Board.
here are the pics:
the last pic is the other side, and how its suppose to look like…
No two ways about it that fin is gonna have to come of and glassed back on ! If it’s loose then break it off. If not then use the edge of the sander or Dremel tool and grind until you can get it off. Sand down the immediate area on the bottom of the board and the fin also and glass the fin back on. There should be plenty of stuff on this in the Swaylocks archives. You will need to ensure that the fin is set at the same angle by making an angle template from the other fin. Once it is glassed on, hotcoat, sand and then gloss and polish. Job finished !
Howzit surfguns, Looking at the pics it looks like both fins are damaged on only 1 side. If that's the case and they aren't loose you can grind out the delammed glass and reglass the damaged sides. It's not that hard to do but only if the fins aren't loose. If they are loose then do take them off and reattach them.Aloha,Kokua
Just out of curiosity, I reside at O’ahu. Does anybody know any fantastic glassers that would take the time to fix my board?? I decided to actually take this board into a pro, just because i don’t have the materials to fix it. I talked to Manny and he told me to find someone up here, so i called up Bret who lives in the North Shore and made my single fin retro board, and he advised me to go to WRV (Wave Riding Vehicle Shop) and talk to Colin. Does anybody have any recommendations? I don’t know the WRV guys at all, and don’t know their reputation, can someone point me to the right direction? I am planning to go to Fiberglass Hawaii later on and ask for some glassers that would fix my fin. If anybody out there that live here in O’ahu, or know someone in O’ahu, i’d much appreciated your kind help.
