My sincere appoligies to all I have offended in the past 2 1/2 yrs

Hello, Hola, Aloha,

I have been practicing meditation lately and have been doing some positive changes in my life and wanted to take a minute to say I’m sorry to those few I have offended in the 2 and a half years I have been part of this community. I have done some reflection and have come to realize that the few times this has happened I have not been open minded enough to accept other peoples’ points of view and/or have taken some comments personal.

I have even come to peace with accepting that Channel Island boards are nice. This is after I critizized my buddy in a previous thread for  ordering a quiver of CI’s and not going with a local shaper. Although it’s a big company that produces many boards, many ghost shappers, glassers, sanders and customer services reps work there hard to support their families. I have gone down from 225 lbs to 194 lbs and have recently been looking at the board selector wizard in their site just looking at general dimensions to get ideas for future boards and I have to say that it looks like a great tool for reference as to how to relate weight, ability and board dimensions in a general way. I have also been checking out their blog and they answer many questions to people who ask about a certain board model or dimensions. Yes, maybe it’s a good thing to keep consistency with CNC and Cad programs and if one wants a stronger board maybe it can be ordered with a custom blank or glass job… Although I prefer my boards from a more less production oriented artist…

In that and in many other things I am looking to be a more peaceful and tolerant person so to all I have offended in my last 2 and a half years in swaylocks I am sorry and mahalo for giving me a chance to learn something about myself.

Aloha!

Tony

Oh man!  You’re bummin’ me out.  Isn’t there anything I can say to upset your inner calm??

McDing,

You could make it a lose/lose by saying " I'm offended by your apology." Seriously, just kidding. Soul cleansing is ultimately important.

Well Tony since you are feeling the love for CI why don't you pony up and buy the company? I have heard that Burton really really wants to dump CI. Seems that CI is hurting the bottom line. Do they have any hot young talent to replace the ageing Kelly Slater? once kelly retires CI sales will take a nose dive.

I have looked at the M13 in an 8 foot for  a  short board for this old fart overweight surfer. I don't have a problem with cnc machines and ridge rubbers as long as everyone knows what they are getting. I do have a problem with the price you pay for a production name brand board. If a worthy custom board builder take time and effort to meet your specific needs and produce a board for you. In my mind that has more value. Why should I pay a similar price for production board?

OK back to the subject,No need to apologize it's only the Internet and it's only surfing. Glad to hear you are finding some inner peace and losing weight.  Now post some recipes i need to shed about 30 lbs

Totally agree about Tony's contributions.

Let me put out some good vibes and say that Tony’s posts on any subject are always some of my favorite to read,  Lowel

Oh McDing, you just say that about my contributions to make me feel good, thanks… Well, I was just feeling a little reflective yesterday and I really love this forum so I just had to get that off my chest… laughed a lot with both of your replies tkelly and Mcding, lose/lose jejeje very funny, happens to me everytime I make the mistake of disagreeing with my wife jejeje.

artz, didn’t know Channel Islands was going to be sold. What’s the price, maybe if I win the powerball loto next year… Well, Right now they got Dane Reynolds and Yadin Nicol who I guess are the new generation rippers plus Tom Curren, Rob Machado, Taylor Knox who are all well known and appear constantly in ads and in magazines. I believe people will always want to buy their boards, who knows I might try one someday but for the price, I would rather spend a little more and get a custom from Barnfield, Junod or Pavel… Or if I had the time, get some blanks and make a lot of not so good boards myself. What I really like about CI is that they have a very user friendly classification of their shapes and they give you an idea of how much volume one needs and how it can be distributed in the different dimensions of their various models/shapes. Seems like they got people asigned to answer all the surfboard dimensions related questions in their blog too.

Yes, I have lost some weight and can feel it in my surfing, just got a used Kane Garden quad high performance fish and it’s 5’9". Still getting the hang of it as I have only surfed it once but I can catch waves easily on it. How did I do it? First, I quit drinking beer for like 2 months(August and Sept) and instantly lost like 8 lbs (was drinking over 4 beers a day, no hard liquor but stout makes you fat). After that I have drank beer on three ocassions and only 1 or 2.

Second, I made a drastic change in my diet, I decided to stop eating like a 225 lbs fat fudge. Although I ate healthy foods, I began to control portions, eating intervals and what I eat at what time of the day (no food after 8 PM). When I wake I take some lemon and boiling water with a bit of honey (got this from a nutrition article by Kelly Slater) then I go excersice. After my workout or surf, I make myself a fruit and coconut milk shake and eat a boiled egg or whole wheat toast with all natural peanut butter. About 3 hrs later an example of lunch would be a big salad with fat free dressing (all natural ingredients) with 1/2 cup of rice and about 6 oz of fish. Fruit or another fruit shake or frappe for an afternoon snack (no coconut milk this time) and finally dinner. Could eat anything for dinner, for example, I just ate spaghetti with fresh basil, mozarella and groung lean beef, I just watch the quantity. If I know I won’t exercise the next morning I try to avoid big carbs for dinner. Night snack when I feel like it can be 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and some papaya. I think diet is #1 with a close second being cardio excersice.

Third, I decided to be a little irresponsible with work and more responsible with myself, every morning I take an hour to do some hardcore exercise, I can do it because I am self employed. If there’s waves, I surf for an hour at any uncrowded location that permits me to catch lots of waves paddling constantly back to the lineup to catch another one. If waves aren’t that good I grab my bodyboarding flippers and go for a 1 hr jog through a sandy coast close to the office, If while jogging I see a small barrel, I put on the flippers and bodysurf 2 or 3 waves and without stopping I get out of the water and keep running until the hour is over (good cross training). Sit ups and push ups every other day and meditatie for everyday 15-20min after I wake up befor sunrise (exercise for the spirit). I began my jogs at 20 min and as I lost weight I increased time and intensity because I felt like my body was asking for it.

Finally, I try to avoid stress and get at least 6 hrs of sleep. I am still about 24 lbs from my goal(170 lbs @ 10% fat),  the last 10 lbs have been much slower than the first 20 or so but the idea is to just keep the discipline and results will come. Hope this helps Artz.

Tony.

Your post above is quite inspirational… I feel motivated to take your lead.

I’ve started mountain biking more again.   Used to do it 6 days a week 2-3hrs. a day.

I’ve read quite a few of your posts in the past. You’ve never struck me as one of the “bad act” bunch here…

We all know who “we” are… Don’t we guys?..

Don’t forget how you feel right now.

Don’t forget…

Was funnin’ on the first post bro, but not the second.  Your opinions etc are always read and valued by me.  You’re a smart guy who knows boards and breaks down your way and your veiws on topics are always interesting to me.  Generally when I see that you have started or contributed to a thread I make a point of reading what you have to say.  Seriously!
