That guy did a show here once. Watching the show it was made out to look like he was 1000 miles from civilisation. In reality he was never more than 10 mins from a world class restauraunt.
Bear Gryllis has been accused of staging his survival shows. He actually admitted some trickery when pressed. They now run a bit of a disclaimer at the show open.
Les Stroud has a similar show called “Survivor Man”. He seems much more legit. Carries all his own camera gear and shoots all the footage himself. He will often go to a location and consult with local, indigenous people to learn what’s edible and what to watch out for before he goes out alone. I find him to be much more entertaining and down to earth than Gryllis.
At my age I shouldnt be so gullible. But it doesnt surprise me about the film crew doing his work. Whoever writes his script should be shot for giving people crap advice.
I love your quote after your post Bill. Most apropos to my current board building venture.
Whit, I think the original myth was that "chicks cant surf".

A friend of mine was shooting photos out by the Turtle Bay Hilton Hotel, here on the North Shore. He stumbled onto a couple of guys building a fire and setting up a campsite in the bushes. Finally...... he got them to admit that..... that famous survivalist commando chap was back in the Hotel chilling around the pool while they were setting up the set for his next "survival" adventure!

The only good shapers come from California or Hawaii ;)
Only pro builders make good boards.
DIY builders don't make good boards.
If its not a popular brand, it's sub-par.
if you dont live by the ocean you cant surf well
if you live inland you cant make surfboards
your only cool if it has 3 fins and looks like a potato chip
“A shaper will make you a custom board”
No they wont , they will make their stock board and scale it so they think it fits your weight.
“Epoxy is too flexible” (shapers/ glassers excuse for not using epoxy resin)
“Its ok to paddle out on the rip and take priority. Especially if you chat and smile”
Never say “one more”
red boards are fastest.
kelly slater rode a 5’6" at todos santos and paddled this past weekend and paddled it in.
Roy broke the sound barrier surfing one of his boards, luckily the steam coming of the board created a vapor barrier around him and he recieved third degree burns over his entire body making him blind and that is why he no longer post here.
and I believe the myth was “hot girls can’t surf” Alana Blanchard is definitely proof that that statement is purely mythical
Idler, I can totaly tell the difference between two sets of FCS fins in my shortboard.
leashes eliminate swimming.
a sanded surfaced board glides better than glossed and polished one.
waves start to break “only” on a surface half of the wave’s height.
surfers travel faster than 30mph. (on a paddle in board,no jetski toeins).
that’s a start.
i got more.
herb
people from pennsylvania cant surf
you cant surf on the east coast (usa)
you cant have fun unless its overhead
longboards are the best to learn on
having the most points makes you a better board builder/surfer...up to 150 on this one
never get an epoxy board the same weight, dimensions and volume as your favourite PU/PE. Instead order it thinner or it will float too much.
I’ll have the board ready for your Indo trip - promise!
All surfers are potheads, pissheads and thieves.
Surfing isnt hard, because they just stand there.
Surfers have long pockets.
Points for posting on Sway's have some significance
Roy doesn't post on Sway's anymore
Wooden boards have a future
