MYTHBUSTERS- surfing myths.

"Don't worry about that ding on your new $1200 popout, the guy at the surf shop said its closed cell polystyrene"

Pro surf contests are interesting to watch.

Pro Surfers do interesting and insightful interviews.

Professional surfing is beneficial to the average surfer.

sorry I didn’t see you.

no you don’t have a poo stance

quads aren’t good in big waves.

thrusters are the best fin set up.

your board will be ready in 3 weeks.

You will never see a SUP in macking Pipeline, because they are for small surf only.

f99

turns like a shortboard

and paddles like a longboard.

My  board   Was NOT made in china…

"Bulletproof"

"Magic"

“I could have made it around that section”

“I’ll fix that ding before I take it out next”

the myth that  the ocean rises and falls with the tide ... many of us know that it's the cliffs and sand that are going up and down

set waves are actually tsunamis

where the most people are surfing has the best waves/ if people are out it must be good.

you can sit deeper than the people who surf the spot everyday cuz they don’t know where the rock that will knock your fins out.

Any statement that starts or ends with with 'Duude"* Think 'Spicoli' and go from there. Would you buy a theory from this joker?

Science, engineering and technology are not really useful when it comes to surfing. It's all just ( fill in the blank - karma, going with the flow, being at one with the universe, "my shaper is god","I am so cool and gnarley that physics doesn't matter"...pick one)

Roy makes/made sense.

(similarly ) This (bogoid thory with zero basis in fact ) is the way to go. I don't care what other people think, I know it works because ( flake of the month ) said it did, because he's a nonconformist who doesn't care about ( insert physical law here ) because it's just so gnarly, duude.

*having looked it up, 'dude' is the slang for a stallion's ...ahem.... apparatus. I dunno about you, but when somebody refers to me as a horse's - ahem- lets just say 'apparatus' again, I might just be tempted to pop him one...

doc...

Everyone knows that ocean waves come in sets of 20 when you are caught in the impact zone and sets of 1 when you are on the outside.

Duude, that was hysterical!

Here is THE #1 myth...

unless you've shaped a thousand boards or more, you haven't mastered it.

I would very strongly (and respectfully) disagree. But when I had only shaped 500 boards, I would have said the same thing. You can only realize how much better you can get in hindsight. I've talked to a lot of experienced shapers about this, and they ALL say the same thing - ''yeah, I THOUGHT I was good when I'd done (insert low # here), but.......''.

Adjustable fins:

I don't want a surfer to fiddle with his fins and make my board go shit!

Hello..... if the board is that good, no surfer would even dream of adjusting their fins, and to top it, it's not permanent unlike fcs/futures/glass-ons

Hello..... surfers get to choose what fins they want to use when buying their surfboard from a surf store or online....

Hello..... who know's if the surf store salesman has sold that surfer the most appropriate board??? what's the surfer's impression on your brand, if he's been sold the wrong shape with the wrong fins???

there's many more....

A CAD program will make one a shaper? (LOL)

Aint that the damn truth, glad I’m not alone on this one!
